21ST CENTURY CO)~ITTEE <br /> <br /> ~y 28, 1991 Meeting <br /> <br /> The Con~nittee me: at 7:30 p.m. on May 28, 1991 et the Health Department <br /> <br /> Attending the meeting were Marcha Macon, Dick Synder, Rod Duncan, Angela <br /> Ferguson, Herb Smith, Hob Sessu~, Yernice ~organ, Cail Linker, Betty Jewel1, Fred <br /> Pilkington, Jan 0dell, Bob Lorish and Jim Cook. <br /> <br /> Minutes of the May 13 meeting were distributed. ~o changes were <br /> <br /> Chadian Herb Smith asked for presentation of the data on n~bers of persons <br />served during the previous year, the percentage of the populatio~ represented, and <br />the {~p) plotting of locations of samples of clients ~erved by each of the four <br />public agencies. <br /> <br /> J~ Cook presented data for Social Services. Me indicated approx~tely <br />(different) individuals had received some service or assistance from the Department <br />during the past yemr. (~ts n~ber as exclusive of info~a~ion and referral <br />contacts.) ~is number represented 11.2~ of the total county population of 98,935. <br />A map with a s~ple of Social Semites clients wms premen~ed. Clients were most <br />heavily concentrated in the Concord and Kannapolis areas with roughly a third of <br />clients located in the remainder of the County. <br /> <br /> Fred Pilkington next made a p~esentation on the Health Department. <br />c~bined the demographic data requested by the Co~ictee with a presen~ation on the <br />Department which h~d also been plamned for the meeting.) A copy of ~he matertml <br />presented is at~ached. <br /> <br /> ~e HealKh Department presentation followed an outline which Herb Smith had <br />worked out with Fred P~lkington for use in all such presentations by agencies. Areas <br />covered were: history, mandated semites, pstients and where they c~e from, <br />interrelationships with other agencies, and critical needs. <br /> <br /> The Health Depar~ent had se~ed some 11,597 persons during the past year. <br />was ~1.7% of the County's population. Clients were concentrated in the Concord and <br />Kannapol~s areas. <br /> <br /> The most critical need of the Health Department Is for a 2&,000 square fov~ <br />bu~la~ng <br /> <br /> ~ere was much discussion of access and availability issues. Fred Pilkington <br />indicate8 tha~ scarcity of resources is forcing health department prodra~ statevide <br />to become more clinically oriented. Also, ~any services cannot be *'taken <br />outlying comuuities easily because of equipment requirements, He indicated the <br />Health Department voula need to add about ~0 staff persons in the comin& l0 years to <br />meet comunity needs but that space ~ould be requited if any additional staff is to <br />be added. <br /> <br /> <br />
