There was discussion of the problem that many persons needinE services are not <br />well motivated to address their health service needs. The Committee suggested <br />community "legitimizers" could possibly be used in helping to add~ess this problem. <br /> <br /> A suggestion vas also made about the use of school facilities (after hours) for <br />service provision. <br /> <br /> There was insufficient time st this meeting to secure demographic data from the <br />Mental Realth and Aging Departments. These presentations were delayed. <br /> <br /> Herb Smith next indicated he had concluded consolting services are needed by the <br />Committee to help it map out a plan of work and perhaps also to help in facilitating <br />meetings. Re indicated Mike Ruffin had been agreeable to this and that two <br />Commissioners he had contacted had also been agreeable to the Committee's explorinB <br />this. <br /> <br /> Herb Smith had asked Jim Cook to explore what possible individuals or <br />organizations might be enBagedo 3dm Cook reported he had been in touch with Charles <br />PaBe of United Way, Bill McCoy of the Urban Institute at lINC-C, Gary Russell with the <br />Political Science Department at UNC-C, David M. Griffin Associates of Raleigh, and <br />Munictple Advisors of Virginia Beach. The Committee asked Jim Cook to contact <br />Charles Page and Bill McCoy to invite them for further discussion at The June 3 <br />meeting. <br /> <br /> The Committee examined maps of county-owned property ~hich had been generated by <br />the County MIS Office, The Committee ~as pleased with these. <br /> <br /> The next meeting was scheduled for June 3, 1991 at the Department of Aging. <br /> <br /> <br />
