I
I 21ST CENTURY

JL~E 3, 1991 Meeting
!
The Committee met at 7:30 p.m. on June 3, 1991 at the Cabarrus County
i Senior Center.
Attending the meeting were: Jan Odell, Bob Sessum, Martha' Macon, Gall
Linker, Fred Pilkington, Rod Duncan, Vernice Morgan, Betty Jewell, Bill
I McCoy, Bob Lorish, Dick Snyder, Charles Page, Merb Smith and JEm Cook.
Charles Page of the United Way of Central Carolinas and Bill McCoy of
I the Urban Institute at UNC-C had been invited by the Committee to discuss
the possibilities of their organizations providing assistance to the
Committee.

I Each discussed his organization's work and his thoughts as to how his
organization might work with the Committee. It appeared that the twu
organizations would be willing to work together in providing services to
i the Committee.
Discussion in the Committee was to the point that the two
I orgamirations would probably complement each other if involved together in
working with the Committee.

Jim Cook was requested to be in touch with Mr. Page and Dr. McCoy
I requesting that they jointly a proposal for providing planning
prepare
facilitation and data-gathering services to the Committee. The Committee
felt that in addition to the six-meeting process of dealing with its
I assignment which had been suggested by Dr. McCoy, the Committee should
gather further basic information on services currently provided in the
community. It felt that it should also strive further to secure projections
i on future demographic characteristics and trends for the community and to
develop a vision of what community services should be like in future. 2im
Cook was asked to communicate these additional needs to }Ir. Page and Dr.
McCoy for inclusion in the proposal, The proposal was to detail costs
i associated with provision of services.
Minutes of the May 28, 1991 meeting were distributed and approved.
I After agreeing to meet next on Monday, June 17 at ?:30 p.m. at the
Senior Center, the Committee adjourned.
!
!
!
