cabarrus arts COUllCiJ, inc. FEB z
p.o. BOX 809, concord, n.c. 28026
t

Feb~u. ary 23, 1990

Mr. Michael RUffin
Cabarrus County Manager
Pqst Office Box 707
Concord, North Carolina 28026'0707

Dear Mr. Ruffin:

The Cabarrus Arts Council is once again seeking county assistance
for the administration of our programs through the LOcal
Government Challenge Grant Program of the N.C. Arts Council.
This year, iwe must show an increase in government suPPort to
receive matching state funds on new monies. North Carolina is
shifting an additional $50,000 into this funding program and we
would like to receive the maximum allowed each applicant again
this year, $5,000 in matching funds. Therefore, we would like to
request support from Cabarrus County for 1990-91 in the amount of
$10,000.

The growth potential for Cabarrus Arts Council in the cQming
years is evident with each new family that chooses to reside
here. Our staff development is crucial to meet the needs of
continued groWth in Cabarrus County. Funding from our government
on a regular basis would enable us to add at least a par[-time
office assistant and therefore increase our services. The cronic
need for additional staff has hindered our planning process.

Since our 1989 request for county funding, We have instituted the
Art Enrichment Program in Cabarrus County Schools. A volunteer
force of 34 interested persons from all walks of life have been
making regular Classroom visits to bring art criticism and
appreciation to children from kindergarten through eighth grade.
The administration of this program has been added to the duties
of our director, increasing an already busy schedule. The
rewards frOm sUch a program, however, far outweigh the labors.
Feedback from school administrators and teachers alike has
conVinced us this program should be continued and ~ncreased. It
is important to utilize volunteerism in non-Profit organizations
sUch as ours; additional funding would greatly increase our
abilities to bring more programs into the community.
