6.1 ~ERGENCY AMBULANCE SERVICE <br /> <br /> Each franchised emergency ambulance provider must provide <br /> such service on a 24 hour per day, 7 day per week basis, and <br /> comply with all requirements for operators and attendants, <br /> equipment, ambulances and communications, for an emergency <br /> ambulance service franchise, pursuant to this ordinance. <br /> <br /> Franchised emergency ambulance providers are permitted to <br /> engage in the provision of both emergency ambulance service and <br /> non-emergency ambulance service. <br /> <br /> 6.2 NON-EMERGENCY AMBULANCE SERVICE <br /> <br /> Each franchised non-emergency ambulance provider must <br /> provide such service on a 24 hour per day, 7 day per week basis, <br /> and comply with all requirements for attendants, equipment, <br /> ambulances and communications, for a non-emergency ambulance <br /> service franchise, pursuant to this ordinance. <br /> <br /> Franchised non-emergency ambulance providers may only engage <br /> in the provision of non-emergency ambulance service, and may only <br /> provide service for non-emergency patients as defined herein, <br /> with respect to services originating within the County. <br /> <br /> Provided, however, that a non-emergency ambulance provider <br /> may transport any non-emergency patient to, from or between <br /> ~aedical facilities when such facility assumes medical <br /> responsibility and liability for patient care at all times during <br /> transport, when such facility provides a health care professional <br /> licensed to provide all necessary patient care to accompany the <br /> patient as attendant at all times during transport (i.e. Staff <br /> Physician or Registered Nurse), and when the transportation of <br /> the patient will not require the use of emergency warning <br /> devices, audible or visual, at any time during transport. <br /> <br /> Franchised non-emergency ambulance providers may not engage <br />in the provision of emergency ambulance service nor provide <br />service for emergency patients as defined herein. In the event a <br />franchised non-emergency ambulance provider, or an entity <br />providing service as described in Section 2(c), is confronted <br />with a call for emergency service, or is confronted with an <br />emergency patient upon arrival at the scene, the attendant must <br />immediately notify CMED of the situation and request immediate <br />· dispatch of an emergency ambulance or other instructions from <br />'CMED. <br /> <br /> In the event a non-emergency patient becomes an emergency <br /> patient during provision of non-emergency ambulance service (i.e. <br /> in transit], the attendant must immediately notify CMED of the <br /> situation.
