Concord, North Carolina 28026.0668 November 20, 1989 MEMO~D~ TO: Mike Ruffin, County Manager FROM: Jim Cook, Social Services Director SUBJECT: National Organization on Disabilities Recently, Jeff Young of the Planning Department at the City of Concord contacted me asking me if someone at DSS might be willing to serve as our community's liaison to the national Organization on Disability. Jeff had served in this capacity for the prior two years having been designated as the city's representative. AS he explained, he felt that it might be better to have someone with more direct involvement with disability concerns and someone with a county-wide perspective to serve in this capacity, Cara Early Vaahoy an income maintenance caseworker on our staff has agreed to serve in this capacity. I am supportive of her serving. In discussion with her about her involvement in activities suggested or requested by tho Organization, I have indicatod that she may devote some work time to community activities or projects so long as this does not interfere with her normal work responsibilities. Ms. Vanhoy understands that she may devote personal time to these activities to the extent that she is willing to da so. I have attached a fact sheet on the Organization, Jeff Young may be better able than I to answer questions relating to the Organization and its expectations. The primary reason that I have forwarded this material to you is that the Organization asks that this liaison be designated by the chief elected official of the governmental entity he represents. While this does not appear to require Soard of Commissioners action, the Chairman's signature is requested. A form is enclosed. If all of this is agreeable, please return the sigaed form to me.
