Evidence of inoculation of cats. <br /> <br /> Cats shall not he reqni~ed ~o wear the metallic tag re[erred to in section <br />3 of this article, but tbs owaer of a cat shall maintain tile rabies vaccination <br />certificates as written evidence to prove tbst tile cat bas a current rabies <br />inoculation. <br /> <br />Sec. 5. ~ and confinement of animals biting persoes or showih~f_~.~toms of <br />rabies. <br /> <br /> (a) Every dog or cat whlcb has bitten any persoe or wbJch shows symptoms <br />of rabies shall be confined immediately aad sbal] be promptly reported to tDe <br />Animal Control Department, and thereupon shall be securely quarantined, at the <br />direction of the Anlma] Control Department, for a period of ten (~0) days, sad <br />shall not be released from such quarantine except by writcee permission from the <br />Animal Control Department. <br /> <br /> (b) Dogs and cats quaraetined ander this section sha]] be coofined <br />veterinary hospital, boarding kennel, or cousty aoJmal shelter, at the expense <br />of the owner; provided~ however, that if an animal control officer determines <br />that the owner of an animal which must be quarantined bas mdeqaate confinement <br />facilities upon his own premises, the animal control officer shall authorize tDe <br />animul to be confined on such premise~. The animal control officer may not <br />authorize the animal to be confiaed on the owner's premises unless the owner has <br />a fenced-in area in bis yard aed the feaced-~n area has ao eatrances or ex,ts <br />that are not locked, and the animal is currently vacclnated against rub~es. If <br />the an~msl is confined on the owner's premises, the animal contro~ officer shall <br />revisit the premises for iaspection purposes at approximately the m~dd]e of the <br />eonfinement period and again at the conclusion of the confinement period. <br /> <br /> (c) In the case of stray dogs or cats whose ownership Js oot known, the <br />dogs or cats may be eutbanized and the head examJaed for rabies or kept for the <br />supervised quarantine period required by this section at the county <br />shelter. <br /> <br /> (d) If rabies does eot develop within ten (10) days after e dog or cat <br />quarantined under this section, tbe dog or eat may be released from quarantine <br />with the written permission of the Asimal Control Department. If the dog or cat <br />bas been confined in the county animal shelter, the owner sba]] pay a fee <br />determined by resolution of the Doard of County Commission%ers for each day <br />confinement to defray the cost of feeding, upon reclaiming the animal. Fees <br />shall be available for poblic inspection in the office of the Clark to tbe Board <br />of County Co~issio~ters and Cabarets County Animal Shelter. <br /> <br /> <br />
