(e) In the case of any carnivore or bat the animal may ;,be euthanlzed and <br />the head examined for rabies. ~ <br /> <br />Sec. 6. D~struction or c0~finement of animal bitten by rabid animal. <br /> <br /> (a) If an animal has a current rabies inoculation and ts~bitten by a known <br />rabid animal, the animal bitten shall be revaccinated and returned to the o~v~er. <br /> <br /> (b) If an anl~l docs not have a current rabies lnocnlation and ls bitten <br />by a knowu rabid animal, the o~er of tbs bitten aotmal must. strictly isolate <br />the bitten aninml in an animal sheltar, boarding kennel, or at a veterinary <br />hospital for a period of six (6) months or the animal will he immediately <br />destroyed. <br /> <br />Sec. 7. Area-wide emersency quarantine. <br /> <br /> (a) When reports iodicato a positive diagnosis of rabies, tbs County <br />Director of Public llealtb may order an area-wide quarantioe for such period as <br />be deelaa necessary. Open invoking of such emergency quarantine, no dog~ eat or <br />other carnivore shall be takcn into the streets or permitted to be iu tile <br />streets during such period. During such quarantine, no dog, cat or erbar <br />carnivore may be taken or shipped from the county without written permission of' <br />the Animal Control Department and the police and sheriff's departments are <br />hereby directed during such emergency, to impound any dog, cat or other <br />carnivore found running at large in tbs county. During the qusrantiue period, <br />the Animal Control Department or the local health authorities isbell be empowered <br />to provide for a program of mass immunization by the estahlisbment of temporary <br />emergency rabies vaccination facilities strategically located throughout tbs <br />co~tnty. :: <br /> (b) In the event there are additional positive cases o~ rabies occurring <br />during the period of quarantine, such period of quarantine ~ay be extended at <br />the discretion of tile County Director of Public Health. I <br /> <br />Sec. 8. Postmortem diagnosis. ~ <br /> <br /> (a) If an animal dies while under observation for rabieS, <br /> the <br /> head <br /> of <br /> <br />animal shall be immediately submitted to the County Heal*,tb nepartnlent, for <br />shipment to the Laboratory Section of the Division of llealth ~ervices for rabies <br />diagnosis. <br /> (b) Tile carcass o~ any animal suspected o[ dying o,f rabies shell be <br />surrendered to tile Animal CQntrol Department. The head of s~ch animal shall ba <br />immediately submitted to the County Health Department fo~ sbipment to the <br />Laboratory Section of the Division of Health Services for rabies diagnosis. <br /> <br /> <br />
