S~ Chandler, Jr./Dzrector of Planning'~L~ <br /> <br /> SUBJECT: Joint Transportation Meeting with the North <br /> Carolina Department of Transportation-Planning <br /> Section, Rowan County and the City of Concord <br /> <br />DATE: January 26, 1981 <br /> <br />Mr. Blake Norwood of the North Carolina Department of Transportation- <br />Planning Section will be meeting with us on February 4th at 10.00 A.M <br />in the Commissioners' room of the Cabarrus County Courthouse. <br /> <br />As the area from Concord to China Grove has been designated, by the <br />U. S~ Census, as a Metropolitan Statistical Area (SMA), the area <br />will also ~e designated by the North Carolina Department of Trans- <br />portation as ~ Metropolitan Planning Area. The'lead agent will re- <br />ceive transportation planning funds ($25,000 - $28,000) to hire a <br />transportation planner and set up an office. This transportation <br />planner will have the responsibility of co-ordinating all transpor- <br />tation planning in the entire Kan-La-Con area~ <br /> <br />The purposes of the meeting are two-fold: 1) to explain the impli- <br />cations of the Metropolitan Planning Area designation and, 2) to <br />decide which of the three agencies will be designated as the lead <br />agency; Cabarrus County, Rowan County or the City of Concord. <br /> <br />As the Cabarrus County manager will be out of to~ attending another <br />meeting, it is suggested that an least nwo (2) of the Cabarrus County <br />Commissioners be present in addition to staff personnel to represent <br />the County. <br /> <br />Thank you for your cooperation in this and other matters. <br /> <br />pds <br /> <br /> 2 <br /> <br /> <br />
