Mr. Charles McGinnis
Fairway Street Memo
November 5, 1979
Page Two

In Fact, when Mrs. C. F~ Wilier came to express her displeasure
with the name, she said that the post office would not deliver her
mail on this street and further stated than the street was not
named by the developer and that someone in the tax office sug%ested
the name, Fai~ay, since it was adjacent to the golf course. As
there were only two structures located on this roadway that had the
appearance of a driveway and was not named by the developer, it had
no official means of recognition. (Not referred to on County base
map, County street name book, Champion maps, city directory or other
official oz semi-official document])
Mr. Bob Railford also called expressing his concern to retain the
name. It was his opinion that the purchasers of the lots paid a
much higher price for the lots because of the name Fairway.
The reason for the County policy of non-duplicating and deceptively
similar names were explained in detail to both Mrs. Wilier and to
Mr. Railford, citing the responsibility of the governmental body to
safeguard the health, safety and general welfare of the citizenry
as well as a more explicit example was used citing the necessity to
avoid confusion from an emergency service point of view. I informed
both parties that the street could be renamed even though it was now
a Dame of record as long as those individuals o%~ing the majority of
the road frontage on the road agreed to a name and signed the peti-
ion and as long as it was non-duplicating nor deceptively similar to
others in the County. I offered to speak with the developer on be-
half of the other property o~,~ers after a suitable name had been pro-
posed if they were favorable disposed to my doing so.
Charles, I would hope that the established policy be adhered to and
we do not allow this group of individuals any greater privilege than
we are prepared to allow the residents of the County an large.

pds
