Pagan, Executive Director <br />SUBJECT: Grassroots Arts Program Funds <br /> <br />We are very pleased to tell you that the 1977 General Assembly established a new <br />program which will make additional money available to the arts groups in your <br />county. The Grassroots Arts Program, funded at $275,000* per year, sets up a <br />system through which state funds can be distributed among the counties on a per <br />capita basis. <br /> <br />Your allotment for FY 77-78 is $3,711.65 for Cabarrus County. <br /> <br />Grassroots Arts funds will be distributed in each county through a local organiza- <br />tion which meets the criteria set down in the legislation. We are asking your <br />County Commission to recommend the appropriate organization for your county and <br />we stand ready to assist you in this process in any way possible. <br />Enclosed are guidelines which should answer many of your questions. Also enclosed <br />is a form [or you to complete on the organization you nominate as your local dis- <br />tributing agent and another [orm for that organization to complete stating how it <br />will use the funds. <br />These forms muSt be returned to us by November 15, 1§77. We will review the in- <br />formation and, if approved, the organization you nominate may expect to receive <br />the Grassroots Azts funds in January. <br /> <br />We are very grsteful to you for assisting in this program for we feel that input <br />by local elected leaders is essential to the success of this kind of venture. <br />Please call on us if we can help you in any way. <br /> <br />MBR/glf <br /> <br /> A special bill, a copy of which is enclosed, set up the Grassroots Arts Program <br /> and appropriated $200,000 to finance it. In addition, $75,000 was appropriated <br /> for this program in the main appropriation bill. <br /> <br /> <br />
