The Cabarrus County Board of Education met in a called meeting in <br />its office on Church Street, Concord, North Carolina, the regular place <br />of meeting, at 7:30 P. M., Wednesday, March 11, 1964. <br /> <br /> Present: H. E. Cline, Chairman, and A. H. Harris, L. C. Harmon, <br />S. J. Black, and E. B. White. <br /> <br /> Mr. L. C. Harmon introduced the following resolution which was read: <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS FOR THE <br /> COUNTY OF CABARRUS TO PROVIDE FUNDS FOR S6~qOOL IMPROVEMENTS <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, during the last three years the State Board of Education <br /> <br />in co-operation with the Cabarrus County Board of Education had conducted <br />two surveys relative to the school facilities and needs in the Administrative <br />Unit operated by the Cabarrus County Board of Education; and <br /> <br /> WlqEREAS, during the last twelve months a similar survey has been <br />conducted by the Institute of Government, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, at the <br />request of the Cabarrus County Board of Education, the Concord City Board of <br />Education and the Kannapolts Board of Education to determine the needs for <br />adequate school facilities in the Cabarrus County and other Administrative <br />Units in the County of Cabarrus~ and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it has been determined and found as a fact that the present <br />facilities are inadequate to meet the present needs of the Cabarrus County <br />Administrative Unit and the constitutional requirements of Section 3 of <br />Article IX of the Constitution of North Carolina; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it has been determined that one new school plant for children <br />who are eligible for enrollment in grades 9 through 12 should be constructed <br />in the northwestern area of the Cabarrus County School Administrative Unit in <br />the neighborhood of what is commonly known as "Buff's Peach Orchards". This <br />School would have an approximate enrollment of 1,000 pupils, estimated cost of <br />$1,500,000.00; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it has been determined that a second new plant for children <br />who are eligible for enrollment in grades 9 through 12 should be constructed <br />in the 'eouthwestern area of the Gabarrus County School Administrative Unit in <br />the vicinity of the ~unction of the Zion Church Road with N. C. Highway No. 49. <br />This school would have an approximate enrollment of 1,000 pupils, estimated <br />cost of $1,500,000.00; and <br /> <br /> WI4EREAS, it has been determined that the facilities at the <br /> <br />Mount Pleasant High School should be remodeled and enlarged at the existing <br />location at an estimated cost of $500,000.00; and <br /> <br /> <br />
