County Forest Ranger Joe Black and Chief Sam Wise of the Rimer V.F.D. <br /> <br />reported on several fires occurring at the County landfill and reconunended <br />that the landfill operator build a fire break approximately 100 feet <br />around the area where the fires were occurring. Upon recommendation by <br />County Attorney' Johnson, the Commissioners instructed Ranger Black to <br />determine the amount of damage that would be sustained if any merchantable <br />timber would be destroyed in constructing such a fire break due to the fact <br />that certain litigation now in the courts concerning the timber on the land <br />had not yet been settled. <br /> <br /> Commissioner Ranktn reported to the Board on roadside litter in the <br />area of the County landfill and that the Sheriff would begin issuing <br />citations to operators of garbage trucks causing the littering. The County <br />Manager was instructed to notify the City of Concord that City garbage <br />trucks would be sub,lect to the same citations. <br /> <br /> County Planner Jerry Myers and Engineer Bill Cochran reported that <br />the renaming of streets in the one mile perimeter area around Concord would <br />cost between $17,000 and $18,000. A discussion by the Commissioners on <br />this ma%tar.pointed out that the renaming of streets and roads should be a <br />County-wide proOect and instructed Mr. Myers to prepare such a proposal to <br />be included in subsequent budgets. <br /> <br />Attorney JOhnson presented 8 tax matter concerning property purchased <br />in 196{3 from C. M. Llewellyn for the County schools. County taxes had been <br />assessed on the property after ownership was assumed by the school board. <br />Rankin made motion, seconded by McClary, to abate the texas in question. <br />Vote was unanimous. <br /> <br /> Mr. Lynn Trout, Chairman of the County Historical Society, requested <br />the Commissioners to appropriate $58.35 to erect a sign on the sight where <br />the C~barrus Black Boys blew a British Munition wagon train in Pre-Revolu- <br />tion War days. Rankin made motion, seconded by McClary to approve the <br />request. Vote was unanimous. <br /> <br /> Tax Supervisor Ralph K. Litaker reported to the Board that the Board <br /> <br />of Equalization and Review would meet on Monday, April 20, 1970, Mr. Litaker <br />also stated that the chiefs of the fire departments that had recently had <br />fi£e district elections should turn in lists of tax payers residing within <br />boundaries of the fire district. Commissioners directed that a letter be <br />written to the fire chiefs requesting this information. <br /> <br /> <br />
