17

Commissioner Hammett made motion to approve the expenditure

of $1,569.00 to Laxton Construction Company for additional storage
space in the attic and stairway changes in the renovation of county
building A. Motion seconded by Commissioner McClary and vote carried.

Architect George Griffin discussed the progress being made on

the renovation of County Building A. Food Stamp offices were originally
to go in Building B but space is not available. Food Stamp offices
can be put in the basement of Building A with an outside entrance.
Buildings B and C will not house all the other county offices that
should be included, and Mr. Griffin stated he might recommend the
demolition of Building B. This building is in the worst condition and
does not lend itself to renovation easily. The building committee
is to meet with Mr. Griffin to study the matter and make a
recommendation.

Architect Griffin also discussed the outside doors to the
sheriff's department and reported that manufacturers have told him
they have an exposed closure that will hold up. A low bid
of $1,148.00 for an aluminum canopy as an automotive service shelter
was received by McGee-Jackson, Inc. A bid has been received from
Howard Electric to install five lights along the parapet wall to
light the parking lot. Chairman Hawfield made motion to approve the
installation of door closures, lighting for parking lot, and canopy
for gas pumps. Motion seconded by Commissioner Cook and vote carried.

The Board decided to look at the water tank and old pump house
before granting permission to the Amateur Radio Society to install an
antenna and to house a generator and repeater.

Commissioner McClary made motion to grant permission to the
sheriff to submit grant applications for LEAA Funding for a tower,
camera equipment and three mobile radio units. Motion seconded by
Commissioner Cook and vote carried.

Upon motion of Chairman Hawfield, seconded by Commissioner
McClary and carried, the following road petition was approved: Request
for addition - Grand Canyon Road.

County Manager Charles McGinnis reported that he had received a
petition from the Georgeville Fire District yesterday requesting the
Board to call for an election to tax the district. The petition has
been given to the tax supervisor for verification of names and will be
presented at the next Board meeting.
