In comparison,.the City of Concord <br />would be spending approximately $7.98/person for its share of library <br />costs. <br /> <br />ANNEX V <br /> <br />CHARLES A. CANNON MEMORIAL LIBRARY - Kannapolis Branch <br />Kannapolis, N.C. <br /> <br />The proposed new Charles A. Cannon Memorial Library will be located <br />in Village Park, at Pine Street and Mountain Street. Its adjacency <br />to the Senior Center and proposed new YMCA will be a major addition <br />to the complex serving the varied recreational and social needs of <br />the commmunity. <br /> <br />The Library will house its material collection and administration offices <br />in three pavilions clustered around a skylighted.circulation area. The <br />adult fiction and reading pavilion of 5100 sq.ft, will contain a reading <br />lounge, individual reading carrels, the periodicals collection, the <br />sound recordings collection, in addition to the general book stacks. <br />The adult non-fiction and reference pavilion of 3200 sq. ft. will house <br />a micro-fiche collection and all reference materials. The juvenile <br />fiction and non-fiction collection will be in its own pavilion of <br />2000 sq.ft. There is~a seminar - study room adjacent to the juvenile <br />area for story telling, films, and educational programs. <br /> <br />The site will have a well lighted parking area with a brick entry walk. <br />Key features of the well landscaped site are two outdoor areas. One <br />is an adult reading terrace of 1400 sq. ft. and the other an outdoor <br />children's reading court, with stepped seating, of 1800 sq. ft. <br /> <br />The Library will contain 15,000 sq. ft of floor area. It will be faced <br />with red brick, in an arched motif to match the Senior Center and the <br />YMCA. The pavilions will be hip roofed. Groundbreaking is expected in <br />the fall of 1984 with anticipated completion in the summer of 1985. <br /> <br />Architect: Arnold C. Savrann, AIA <br /> <br /> The Board deleted approval of Recommendation 5 of the Library Branch <br />Study Task Force to fund operations of the Cannon Memorial YMCA Library <br />for 1984-85 subject to clarification from the Trustees of Charles A. <br />Cannon Charitable Trust No. One approving the use of $48,000.00 of the <br />$300,000.00 currently set aside by the County for capital construction <br />of the Kannapolis library for operations. The recommendation as approved <br />and agreement to be signed by the County Manager upon receipt of the letter <br />authorizing the use of these funds for operations are as follows. <br /> <br /> 5.
