291 <br /> <br /> Mr. William Potter complained that the present firemen of the Flowes <br />Store Volunteer Fire Department only wanted the firemen to be able to vote <br />for the officers. He stated in his opinion all persons paying taxes in <br />that fire district deserved representation and should be allowed to vote. He <br />further complained of the unavailability of audit or financial statements <br />for the department. <br /> UPON MOTION of Chairman Lentz, seconded by Commissioner Barnhardt and <br />unanimously carried, the Board directed the County Manager and County <br />Attorney to take whatever steps deemed necesssary to correct the situation <br />at Flowes Store Volunteer Fire Department to get the election for officers <br />held. The Board indicated that this action would include the withholding <br />of the normal County contribution of $250.00 per month until the matter is <br />satisfactorily resolved. <br /> At 7:30 P.M~, Chairman Lentz stated that this was the day and hour <br />scheduled for a public hearing regarding the renaming of Buff-Peach Road to <br />International Drive and asked if anyone were present who wished to speak <br />either for or against this road name change. No one spoke regarding the <br />renaming of Buff-Peach Road. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Upright, seconded by Commissioner Barnhardt <br />and unanimously carried, the Board approved the renaming of Buff-Peach <br />Road, SR 1429, to International Drive. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Barnhardt, seconded by Chairman Lentz and <br />unanimously carried, the 'Board appointed Commissioner William G. Hamby, Jr., <br />to the Yadkin-Pee Dee River Basin Committee to fill the position previously <br />held by Mr. J. Harold Nash, a former member of the Board of Commissioners. <br /> The Board received the nomination from the Parks and Recreation Advisory <br />Commission for the appointment of Miss Lori Lynn White as the youth member <br />of the Advisory Commission. Miss White is a student at Central Cabarrus <br />High School. <br /> UPON MOTION of Chairman Lentz, seconded by Commissioner Hamby and <br />unanimously carried, the Board appointed Miss Lori Lynn White as the youth <br />member of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission for a term of one <br />year ending on July 31, 1986. <br /> Commissioner Upright asked Mr. Charles D. McGinnis, County Manager, <br />to ascertain the rotation schedule used by the Parks and Recreation <br />Advisory Commission in selecting the youth representative nominee from <br />the various schools in the county. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Hamby, seconded by Commissioner Barnhardt <br />and unanimously carried, the Board approved the addition of Fish Camp Road <br />to the state road system for maintenance. <br /> The following bids ware received for carpeting for the Kannapolis Branch <br />of the Charles A. According to the memorandum <br />from Mr. Tom Dillard, Library Director, the ~Library Board of Trustees selected <br />this carpet over the low bid carpet for the following reasons: <br /> <br />1) <br />2) <br /> <br />3) <br /> <br />4) <br /> <br />The superior potential for wear and maintenance. <br />The fact that the carpet selected had a 10-year warranty as <br />opposed to a .5-year warranty of the low bid. <br />The fact that the selected carpet had a superior rating for <br />static control, and hence computer applications than the low <br />bid. <br />The carpet selected was a superior quality to the low bid and <br />to any other carpet presented for their consideration. <br /> <br /> <br />
