5 <br /> <br /> Ms. Karin Iorio of 8091Altacrest Drive supported the Planned Unit <br />Development zoning request for the Kings Grant Project and objected to an <br />airport at the Poplar Tent site. She stated in her opinion the Kings Grant <br />project was a golden opportunity for Cabarrus County. <br /> Mr. Larry Cole supported the Kings Grant Project and addressed the <br />issues of economic development and Cabarrus County as a bedroom community. <br />He commented that the project would be beneficial for economic development <br />as it would increase the number of jobs in the county by 8,000 and would <br />increase retail sales. <br /> Ms. Diane Promin spoke in favor of the Kings Grant project, stating a <br />development of that type would beautify Concord. <br /> Ms. Donna Rogers objected to the use of the property for an airport <br />of the type proposed for Cabarrus County and stated in her opinion the <br />airport would not attract industry to the county. <br /> Ms. Ena Peel supported the Kings Grant project. She addressed the <br />issue of the shortage of $200,000.00 housing in the county and the need <br />for county residents to drive to Charlotte to shop. <br /> Mr. Tom Grady asked that the rezoning petition be denied and urged <br />the Board to proceed with action to build a general aviation airport at <br />the Poplar Tent site. <br /> Mr. Ben Mynatt, representing the Greater Cabarrus County Economic <br />Development Corporation, spoke in support of controlled growth in the <br />county. Stating that Interstate 85 is the best area for industrial growth, <br />Mr. Mynatt objected to the area being used for residential development. <br /> Mr. William Alexander, attorney representing Mr. C. B. Barbee who <br />owns acreage contiguous to the Kings Grant project, opposed the rezoning <br />request. He asked that the Interstate 85 corridor be set aside for <br />industrial growth and objected to the location of a golf course and <br />residential housing on the site proposed for the airport. <br /> Ms. Annamarie Gula of Carriage Downs Subdivision objected to the <br />airport and questioned the interest of any industries that would want to <br />locate in the area because of the airport. <br /> Mr. Harry Lewis of the Poplar Tent Community stated in his opinion <br />the Kings Grant project would be a much better use of the land than the <br />airport. He asked that the County balance the growth of all areas of the <br />county and vote in favor of Kings Grant project. <br /> Ms. Millie Hall, 1988 President of the Kannapolis Chamber of <br />Commerce, opposed the rezoning request for the Kings Grant Project and <br />asked that the following resolution adopted by the Kannapolis Chamber of <br />Commerce be made an official part of the public hearing. <br /> <br />KANNAPOLIS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE <br /> KANNAPOLIS, NORTH CAROLINA <br /> RESOLUTION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />the 1390 acre tract located in the Poplar Tent Road Area, <br />commonly referred to as King's Grant is located on a primary <br />strategic corridor for industrial development and is currently <br />zoned to allow this imperative economic development to occur; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />the Kannapolis Chamber of Commerce has as its number one <br />priority the quality diversification and growth <br />industrial base for our community; and <br /> <br />of the <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />key strategic industrial growth corridors must be preserved to <br />insure economic growth, to provide job opportunities in the <br />future and to provide tax base growth to alleviate the <br />constantly increasing tax burden on all citizens of Cabarrus <br />County; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />the Cabarrus County Commissioners at their November, 1986 <br />meeting, voted to construct a general aviation airport at the <br />King's Grant location, and the site is recognized by the FAA as <br />the best location for this facility in the entire county, and <br />has indicated that funding support will be withdrawn should the <br />Poplar Tent site be withdrawn from general aviation airport <br />consideration; and <br /> <br /> <br />
