WHEREAS,

the Kannapolis Chamber of Commerce is adamantly opposed to the
Midland site as an alternate consideration for a general
aviation airport and feels strongly that this location would not
serve our citizens or in any way enhance our business
development; and

WHEREAS,

aviation is no longer a luxury, but a necessity to recruit
quality industrial and corporate business development and will
become even more important as American business continues to
experience byouts and mergers in the future; and

WHEREAS,

WHEREAS,

CSD and Associates have petitioned to the Cabarrus County
Planning Board to allow the King's Grant property to be rezoned
primarily for residential development and has scheduled for the
construction of over 2000 residential units, thus insuring that
Cabarrus County becomes more of a bedroom community for
Charlotte; and

the Kannapolis Chamber of Commerce has supported the
construction of an interchange for the specific reason of
industrial and business economic growth in the Poplar Tent Road
area and finds no justification for the construction of an
interchange for residential development; and

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Kannapolis Chamber of Commerce is
opposed to the rezoning request of CSD and Associates, Petition
#88-03 to rezone the 1390 acre tract from ARR/A-I to Planned
Unit Development, and recommends strongly that the Cabarrus
County Commissioners deny this rezoning petition.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Cabarrus County Commissioners be
encouraged to preserve this key strategic corridor for
industrial and business economic growth and that other key
locations along our primary transportation arteries be preserved
for the future economic growth of Cabarrus County.

This 21st day of December, 1988.

Mr. Jim Simpson stated he was withdrawing Section A, the site for the
proposed airport, from the rezoning petition and presented the following
letter to the Board.

January 3, 1989

Mr. James Lentz, Chairman
Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners
Mr. Giles Moss, Vice Chairman
Ms. Martha Melvin
Mr. Billy Hamby
Mr. Bill Simmons

Dear Commissioners:

We hereby request that Tract A be withdrawn from our Kings Grant re-zoning
application.
