February 15, 2016 (Regular Meeting) Page 2646 <br />Alan Thompson, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Director, recognized <br />Tammy B. Williams on her retirement from her position as a Paramedic with the <br />Cabarrus County EMS. He highlighted a number of Ms. Williams' <br />accomplishments during her nine -year tenure and presented a certificate of <br />appreciation to her recognizinq her service to the citizens of Cabarrus <br />County. <br />Vice Chairman Honeycutt presented Ms. Williams with a service award. <br />Ms. Williams graciously accepted the certificate and service award. <br />Chairman Morris commended her for her dedicated service to the citizens <br />of Cabarrus County and commented on the Hearts and Heroes event held on <br />February 6th recognizing EMS Paramedics and cardiac survivors. <br />Vice Chairman Honeycutt added that Cabarrus County has twice the <br />national average on resuscitation and survival rates from cardiac arrest, and <br />more people survived cardiac arrest this year in Cabarrus County than in any <br />documented time in the past. <br />(C -2) Humane Society Month - February 2016 - Proclamation <br />Chairman Morris recognized Judy Sims of the Humane Society of Concord <br />and Greater Cabarrus County and commended her for the work at the Cabarrus <br />County Animal Shelter. <br />Judy Sims recognized Mike Sims and Beth King, also in attendance, for <br />their contributions to the Humane Society of Concord and Greater Cabarrus <br />County and at the Animal Shelter. <br />Chairman Morris read the proclamation aloud. <br />UPON MOTION of Commissioner Poole, seconded by Commissioner Mynatt and <br />unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following proclamation: <br />Proclamation No. 2016 -02 <br />CABARRUS COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY MONTH <br />WHEREAS, the Humane Society of Concord and Greater Cabarrus County was <br />founded to promote awareness of animals in need of help; and <br />WHEREAS, the Humane Society educates the community about animal <br />population control and responsible pet care, encouraging pet owners to spay <br />and neuter their pets; and <br />WHEREAS, the Humane Society advocates for kind and compassionate care <br />of animals, and investigates cases of neglect and cruelty; and <br />WHEREAS, the Humane Society provides valuable care by increasing animal <br />adoptions, reducing euthanasia rates, and preventing the spread of disease by <br />proactive vaccinations; and <br />WHEREAS, Cabarrus County partnered with the Humane Society for <br />operation of the Cabarrus County Animal Shelter from June 2013 until January <br />2016, and recognize the operations were supported by devoted staff and loyal <br />volunteers; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners do hereby proclaim February 2016, as <br />"Humane Society Month" <br />in Cabarrus County in recognition of the valuable contributions of the <br />Humane Society of Concord and Greater Cabarrus County, and out of respect for <br />the leadership of Judy Sims and all Humane Society staff and volunteers, who <br />continue to contribute to our community, and to the animals who live <br />alongside us. <br />Adopted this the 15th day of February, 2016. <br />/s/ Stephen M.
