April 18, 2016 (Regular Meeting) Page 2698 <br />Soil and Water Stewardship Week <br />2016 <br />P R O C L A M A T I O N <br />Whereas fertile soil and clean water provide us with our daily <br />sustenance, and <br />Whereas effective conservation practices have helped provide us a rich <br />standard of living, and <br />Whereas our security depends upon healthy soil and clean water, and <br />Whereas stewardship calls for each person to help conserve these <br />precious resources, <br />Therefore, I do hereby proclaim <br />April 24 to May 1, 2016 <br />Soil and Water Stewardship Week <br />/s/ Stephen M. Morris Chairman, Board of Commissioners _April 18, 201 <br />Name Title Date <br />(C -5) Cabarrus Health Alliance - Exercise is Medicine Month Proclamation <br />Chairman Morris read the proclamation aloud. <br />UPON MOTION of Commissioner Mynatt, seconded by Commissioner Shue and <br />unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following proclamation. <br />Proclamation No. 2016 -09 <br />EXERCISE IS MEDICINE MONTH PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, May 2016 is Exercise is Medicine® Month; and <br />WHEREAS, all citizens are encouraged to speak with their primary care <br />providers about how physical activity and exercise may help treat or prevent <br />numerous chronic conditions, such as hypertension, cardiac disease <br />WHEREAS, all physicians and other health care providers are encouraged to <br />talk to their patients about the health benefits of exercise and to strongly <br />recommend that their patients engage in appropriate exercise; and <br />WHEREAS, regular, moderate - intensity exercise has curative and protective <br />health benefits; and <br />WHEREAS, the health benefits of physical activity and exercise can do so much <br />to improve the quality of life for everyone; and <br />WHEREAS, a healthier populace means cost savings, greater participation in <br />the workforce and other benefits to society at large; and <br />WHEREAS, regular physical activity and exercise is indeed a powerful <br />prescription, with great potential to improve the health of all Americans; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the Cabarrus Health Alliance and the Board of Commissioners for <br />Cabarrus County call on health care organizations, physicians and other <br />professionals, regardless of specialty, to assess, to advocate for, and to <br />review every patient's physical activity program during every comprehensive <br />visit; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Board of Commissioners for Cabarrus <br />County, North Carolina, do hereby proclaim the month of May 2016 as <br />EXERCISE IS MEDICINEO MONTH <br />in Cabarrus County and encourage all citizens to participate in activities <br />and observances relating to Exercise is Medicine@ Month in the interests of <br />better health and quality of life for all. <br />Adopted this the 18th day of April, 2016. <br />
