May 2, 2016 (Work Session) Page 2710 Lcnda Strong, Active Living and Parks Director, reported the Cabarrus Veteran's Coalition (CVC) made a presentation for the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial Project to the Active Living and Parks (ALP) Commission at their April 21, 2016 meeting. She advised the ALP Commission voted unanimously to recommend this project to the Board of Commissioners for approval. Robert MacLeod, CVC, presented an overview and history leading up the CVC's monument proposal. He advised the CVC has raised half of the funds it committed to raise for the project and efforts are being made to raise the remainder. Mike Murphy, Active Living and Parks Superintendent, reviewed the following map of the proposed project indicating where the memorial could be located. He advised Infrastructure and Asset Management will provide site preparation, a concrete pad and walkway for the monument. The CVC will also provide five park benches at the site, representing the five branches of the military. He requested the Boards' approval to accept the donation from the CVC and to proceed with the proposed location and project as presented in collaboration with the Active Living and Parks and Infrastructure and Asset Management Departments.
