Of those, 21 participants have qualified to represent Cabarrus <br /> County at the 2017 National Senior Games Competition to be held in Birmingham, <br /> Alabama next June. State finals medalists recognized were: Mark Allen, Robert <br /> Barrier, Myra Baumgardner, Elizabeth Bennett, Janet Buck, H. L. Clay, Margaret <br /> Cleveland, Tom Cunningham, Rena Goolsby, Jeff Hege, Nancy Kapp, Florence <br /> Kendall, Teresa Lambert, Marvin Martin, Bonnie McLean, Mike Plowman, Billy <br /> Sumlin, Freddy Sumlin, Bob Anderson and Ronald Flanders. <br /> (C-4) Cabarrus Veterans Coalition - Presentation <br /> Janice MacLeod, Cabarrus Veterans Coalition, Finance Officer, expressed <br /> appreciation to the Board for funding the site preparation as well as for their <br /> attendance at the dedication of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial located at Vietnam <br /> Veterans Park. <br /> On behalf of the Cabarrus Veterans Coalition, Ms. McLeod presented plaques <br /> of appreciation to the Board of Commissioners, Londa Strong, Active Living and <br /> Parks Director; Mike Murphy, Active Living and Parks Superintendent; Byron <br /> Haigler, Park Program Manager and members of the Active Living and Parks <br /> Department. Vice Chairman Honeycutt and Ms. Strong accepted the plaques. <br /> John Stanley, founding member and co-chair of the Cabarrus Veterans <br /> Coalition, spoke regarding the significance of the memorial. <br /> Cabarrus Veterans Coalition members in attendance were: Tommy Russell, <br /> Luigi Marinaccio, Robert MacLeod, John Stanley and Robert Schankweiler. <br /> (C-5) BOC - Recognition of Employee Aid During Hurricane Matthew and Aftermath <br /> Mike Downs, County Manager, recognized Cabarrus County employees, stating <br /> that during Hurricane Matthew and the days that followed, Cabarrus County <br /> employees responded to aid affected counties and support of disaster recovery <br /> efforts. He added that these employees sacrificed time away from family to <br /> work long hours in support of disaster recovery efforts throughout the State as <br /> well as providing behind the scenes coordination and support.
