Vice Chairman Honeycutt presented Mr. Testerman with a service award in appreciation of his service and dedication to the citizens of Cabarrus County. Mr. Testerman accepted the award and expressed appreciation. (C-3) EMS - Service Award Recognition Alan Thompson, Emergency Management Services (EMS) Director, announced each year Cabarrus County EMS recognizes a top performing full-time and part- time staff member through a system of peer nomination and leadership team approval. The Star of Life Award is presented to a part-time team member who demonstrates great commitment to the service in the areas of system involvement, work hours and professionalism. The EMS Service Award is presented to a top performing full-time team member whose efforts have served to advance the level of care, system reputation and community awareness. Mr. Thompson recognized Chris Goenner, recipient of the 2016 Star of Life Award and Katherine Currin, recipient of the 2016 EMS Service Award. He further acknowledged the superior efforts delivered by all Cabarrus County EMS medics every day to the citizens of Cabarrus County. (C-4) Proclamation - National Donate Life Month April 2017 Brandy Dooley, Life Share of the Carolinas, recognized organ donor recipients in the audience. She also thanked the Board for recognizing National Donate Life Month in Cabarrus County and urged the public to consider becoming an organ donor. Chairman Morris read the proclamation aloud. Commissioner Shue MOVED to adopt the proclamation. Commissioner Shue endorsed the proclamation stating he is a heart and kidney transplant recipient. Proclamation No. 2017-02 PROCLAMATION NATIONAL DONATE LIFE MONTH 2017 Whereas, more than 118, 000 men, women and children in the United States currently need life-saving organ transplants and nearly 2, 890 of those people are North Carolinians; and Whereas, an average of 18 people awaiting transplants die each day because there is a severe shortage of donated organs; and Whereas, every eight minutes, another name is added to the national transplant waiting list; and Whereas, providing facts about donation and dispelling misinformation and myths are key to increasing the number of people who sign up as donors; and Whereas, the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles (NC DMV) plays a critical role with nearly five million North Carolinians in the state' s donor registry having registered when receiving a driver' s license or state ID card; and Whereas, one organ donor can save the lives of up to eight people and improve many more lives through tissue and cornea donation; and Whereas, North Carolinians are encouraged to get the facts about donation, discuss their wishes with their family and sign up as donors via the NC DMV or online at www.donatelifenc.org/register; and WHEREAS, Residents of Cabarrus County have been touched by donation as recipients of life-saving transplants and as members of donor families who have literally given others a second chance at life; and NOW, BE IT RESOLVED, we, the members of the Cabarrus Board of County Commissioners do hereby proclaim the month of April, 2017 to be
