April 20, 2015 (Regular Meeting} Page 2351 <br />WHEREAS, Cabarrus County older adults will continue to shape the county's <br />policies, economic policies, social habits and culture; and <br />WHEREAS, Cabarrus County older adults will continue to provide hours of <br />volunteer, community, and civic service; and <br />WHEREAS, Cabarrus County will continue to focus on how older adults and <br />adults with disabilities are taking charge of their health, <br />getting engaged in their communities, and making a positive <br />impact in the lives of others by: <br />• Emphasizing the importance of older adults to live with dignity in the <br />communities of their choice as long as possible <br />• Presenting opportunities for older adults to receive the following <br />services: home - delivered meals, congregate meals, caregiver support, <br />preventive health services, personal care, transportation, job <br />training, and elder abuse prevention <br />• Recognizing older adults as a valuable leader in strengthening the <br />Cabarrus County communities to promote engaging activities for wellness <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners do hereby proclaim May 2015 to be Older Americans Month. We <br />urge every Cabarrus County citizen to take time this month to recognize older <br />adults and adults with disabilities and the people who serve and support them <br />as vital citizens who greatly contribute to the community. <br />Adopted this the 20T day of April, 2015. <br />fs/ Stephen M. She <br />thanked the Board for observing May as Exercise is Medicine Month. <br />UPON MOTION of Vice Chairman Poole, seconded by Commissioner Shue and <br />unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following proclamation. <br />Proclamation No. 2015 -04 <br />EXERCISE IS MEDICINE MONTH PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, May 2015 is Exercise is Medicineg Month; and <br />WHEREAS, all citizens are encouraged to speak with their physicians about how <br />physical activity and exercise may help treat or prevent numerous chronic <br />conditions, such as hypertension, cardiac disease; and <br />WHEREAS, all physicians and other health care providers are encouraged to <br />talk to their patients about the health benefits of exercise and to strongly <br />recommend that their patients engage in appropriate exercise; and <br />WHEREAS, regular, moderate - intensity exercise has curative and protective <br />health benefits; and <br />WHEREAS, the health benefits of physical activity and exercise can do so much <br />to improve the quality of life for everyone; and <br />WHEREAS, a healthier populace means cost savings, greater participation in <br />the workforce and other benefits to society at large; and <br />WHEREAS, regular physical activity and exercise is indeed a powerful <br />prescription, with great potential to improve the health of all Americans; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners for Cabarrus County call on health care <br />organizations, physicians and other professionals, regardless of specialty, <br />
