May 19, 2014 (Regular Meeting) Page 2009 <br />(C -5) BOC - Memorial Day Proclamation <br />Chairman Poole read the proclamation aloud. <br />UPON MOTION of Mice Chairman Burrage, seconded by Commissioner <br />Oesterreich and unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following <br />proclamation: <br />Proclamation No. 2014 -09 <br />MEMORIAL DAY 2014 PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, across this great country, America will join on May 26, 2014 <br />to honor her fallen heroes of the Armed Forces; and <br />WHEREAS, Memorial Day was first proclaimed a national holiday in 1868 <br />to pay homage to those who answered the call to defend the principles on <br />which our nation was founded; and <br />WHEREAS, throughout the course of generations, both at home and on <br />foreign soil, men and women in uniform have sacrificed for the promise of <br />freedom, the preservation of our values and the ideals of democracy; and <br />WHEREAS, men and women in uniform have paid for our Liberty with their <br />lives, we hold in remembrance their selflessness with deepest honor and <br />respect and are indebted to their memories for the valiant and honorable path <br />of service they followed; and <br />WHERAS, we share in the sorrow with and express our support to the <br />families who also sacrificed greatly for their fellow citizens as they gave <br />up their sons and daughters to serve our country and to search for a day when <br />peace will abound. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners do hereby proclaim Memorial Day, May 26, 2014 in recognition of <br />the men and women in uniform who have made the supreme sacrifice and further <br />urge all citizens to pause for a moment of silence at noon on May 26, 2014 to <br />honor and to reflect on the memory of our fallen heroes of the Armed Forces. <br />Adopted this the 19 day of May, 2014. <br />/s/ Elizabeth F. Poole, Chairman <br />Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners <br />/s/ Megan Smit <br />Megan Smit, Clerk to the Board <br />Chairman Poole announced May 18 -24, 2014 is Cabarrus County Emergency <br />Medical Services Week. <br />INFORMAL COMMENTS <br />Chairman Poole opened the meeting for Informal Public Comments at 7:02 <br />p.m. She stated each speaker would be limited to three minutes. <br />Price Crutchfield, resident of 592 Love Street in Concord, expressed <br />dissatisfaction with members of the Concord Police Department and his <br />treatment at city council meetings. <br />Tom Daoust, resident of 1241 Boyden Place NW in Concord, and Cabarrus <br />GOP Board member, spoke in regards to the outcome of the May primary. He <br />suggested Commissioner Oesterreich resign so the GOP Executive Committee can <br />appoint the candidate with the highest number of votes in the primary to take <br />his place. <br />Anita Brown, resident of 1220 Greenside Drive in Concord, spoke in <br />regards to the outcome of the May primary. She urged the commissioners <br />leaving office in December to consider the concerns of all the citizens they <br />represent and to work together for their best interests. <br />Robert Simmons, resident of Cabarrus County, presented the following <br />statement: <br />From: Robert J Simmons <br />
