(G -4) County Manager - Adoption of the FY 2013 Cabarrus County Budget and
Public Hearing - 6:30 P.M.
Chairman Poole advised the Town of Harrisburg plans to adopt its FY 13
budget on Monday, June 26, 2012, which includes setting the fire tax rate for
Harrisburg city residents. Because the Harrisburg Town Council's action
could be different than what is proposed in the County's budget ordinance for
the Special Fire Tax and Insurance Districts Fund and affects Harrisburg
residents living outside the town limits, the Commission discussed its
options for adopting the budget ordinance. The most favored option was to
adopt the budget ordinance for the Special Fire Tax and Insurance Districts
Fund after the Harrisburg Town Council approves their budget. Board members
also checked their calendars for availability.
Erica Nesbitt, Budget and Performance Manager, reported the County
Manager's recommended budget for FY 13 was presented to the Board on May 21,
2012 and four (4) budget workshops were held thereafter to modify the budget
as directed by the Commission. The proposed FY 13 budget totals
$211,408,859.00 and sets the property tax rate at 70 cents per $100
valuation. She also identified the budgets for the following funds:
Budget Ordinances
Special Fire Tax and Insurance Districts
$2,824,592.00
Capital Improvements Project
$1,602,000.00
In closing, Ms. Nesbitt stated her availability to respond to questions
from the Board.
Nelson Lee, resident of 2704 Pennsylvania Avenue in Kannapolis, and
convenient.
Donna Brezina, resident of 8108 Rocky River Road in Harrisburg, urged
the Board not to combine the Department of Aging with the Department of
Social Services and Parks Department, as proposed.
