August 20, 2012 (Regular Meeting) Page 1188 <br />IN CABARRUS COUNTY <br />A PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, the welfare of our children is the most important responsibility we <br />have as parents. A child should be able to depend on support from both <br />parents; and <br />WHEREAS, children who do not receive adequate financial and emotional support <br />from both parents may experience greater difficulty in becoming healthy, <br />happy and productive citizens of this County. In such cases, the taxpayers <br />of this County support the children whose parents fail to meet this <br />responsibility; and <br />WHEREAS, many concerned and dedicated judges, district attorneys, clerks of <br />court, sheriffs' personnel, and child support professionals work to provide <br />this service to Cabarrus County's children . . . our future; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners does hereby proclaim the month of September as <br />CHILD SUPPORT AWARENESS MONTH IN CABARRUS COUNTY <br />and urges all parents who are currently under court order to regularly pay <br />their child support. <br />Adopted this the 20th day of August, 2012. <br />/s/ Elizabeth F. Poole, Chairman <br />Board of Commissioners <br />(C -3) Library - 1 1 411 - 4 DISTRICTS, 1 BOOK, 1 COMMUNITY" Proclamation <br />Dana Eure, Library Director, stated every year the public library <br />selects one book for a community read with several programs planned around <br />it. This year The Hunger Games by Susanne Collins was selected. She advised <br />the Parks Department, community colleges, as well as other organizations in <br />Cabarrus, Rowan, Stanly and Union Counties joined together to form one <br />community for the "411 - 4 DISTRICTS, 1 BOOK, 1 COMMUNITY" project. <br />Chairman Poole stated the movie was made in the area and included many <br />local citizens. She urged the public to participate in the program. Ms. <br />Eure also provided Hunger Game brochures to the Board. <br />UPON MOTION of Commissioner Measmer, seconded by Vice Chairman Burrage <br />and unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following proclamation: <br />Proclamation No. 2012 -11 <br />NORTH CAROLINA <br />CABARRUS COUNTY <br />PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, reading is a joy for all ages which allows young and old to <br />come together in discussion on a variety of topics; and <br />WHEREAS, every community has special traits that makes it unique. <br />These traits develop over time and are woven into the fabric of its citizens` <br />daily lives. In many ways, our community defines who we are; and <br />WHEREAS, every community comes together through shared history, shared <br />knowledge, and shared experiences. As our community grows and changes, it <br />can become more difficult to maintain and to honor the traits that are unique <br />and special; and <br />WHEREAS, the Cabarrus County Public Library and the Cabarrus County <br />Active Living and Parks Department have partnered with the public libraries, <br />parks departments, community colleges and others in Rowan, Stanly and Union <br />Counties to form one community for the 411 - 4 DISTRICTS, 1 BOOK, 1 COMMUNITY <br />project; and <br />WHEREAS, 411 - 4 DISTRICTS, 1 BOOK, 1 COMMUNITY is one way to bring <br />together each diverse individual in Cabarrus, Rowan, Stanly and Union <br />Counties to share an experience together - the experience of reading the same <br />novel.
