Mr. Marshall advised a search is in progress for a location for the new
elementary school in the northwest part of the county. A couple of potential
sites have been identified and are being investigated. He also responded to
questions from the Board.
Chairman Poole advised the Board to consider the list from Cabarrus
County Schools (CCS) which will be forthcoming. She requested
recommendations from the Board.
Commissioner Measmer requested the MCNC Fiber Construction, Courtroom
Technology Upgrades and planetarium project at Central Cabarrus High School
be given consideration.
Commissioner White listed his requests as follows for the Cabarrus
County list: 1) NCNC Fiber Construction, 2) Courtroom Technology upgrades,
and 3) Multi - purpose Athletic Field Complex. He voiced concerns regarding
the Senior Center upfit /expansion due to the unknown cost, how the increased
space would be staffed, use as a voting district, etc. He advised in regards
to the RCCC requests, the second entrance is premature until the interchange
has been completed and does not see the need for a new building at this time.
In regards to KCS, he stated funds are not available for the Intermediate
School and voiced concerns regarding the variance of prices for computers for
the schools. He also advised items should be given priority in based on what
impacts students the most and will give them a better environment in which to
learn and be educated (HVAC controls, bathrooms, etc.) . Regarding Cabarrus
County Schools, he expressed support for the planetarium project at Central
Cabarrus High School and improvements for Royal Oaks.
Commissioner Carruth expressed agreement with the aforementioned
comments from Commissioners Measmer and White in support of the MCNC Fiber
Construction, Courtroom Technology Upgrades and planetarium project at
