<br />Inmate Housing 90 Days vs. 180 Days
<br />Pam Dubois, Deputy County Manager and John Day, County Manager,
<br />presented an estimate of expenses associated with housing inmates (felons and
<br />misdemeanants) at the Detention Center for 180 days instead of 90 days as
<br />proposed by the Legislature. Ms. Dubois advised the expense is not included
<br />in the proposed budget. Should the legislation be approved, Mr. Day advised
<br />that increased court fees, also included in the proposed legislation, would
<br />cover most of the expense and fund balance would be used to cover any
<br />shortfall. A general discussion ensued on consequences associated with
<br />releasing inmates after the 91S day, and the concepts of "gain time" and
<br />"time served ". The estimate of expenses is as follows:
