September 19, 2011 (Regular Meeting) Page 591 <br />IN CABARRUS COUNTY <br />A PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, each year, approximately 1 million pregnancies in the United States <br />end in miscarriage, stillbirth, or the death of a newborn baby; <br />WHEREAS, it is a great tragedy to lose the life of a child; <br />WHEREAS, babies sometimes live within or outside their mothers' wombs for <br />only a short period of time; <br />WHEREAS, even the shortest lives are still valuable, and the grief of those <br />who mourn the loss of these lives should not be trivialized; <br />WHEREAS, all 50 States have designated October 15, as Pregnancy and Infant <br />Loss Remembrance Day; <br />WHEREAS, the observance of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day can give <br />validation to those who have lost a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth, or <br />other complications; <br />WHEREAS, the observance of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day will <br />provide the citizens of Cabarrus County with an opportunity to increase their <br />understanding of the great tragedy involved in the deaths of unborn and <br />newborn babies; and <br />WHEREAS, the observance of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day will <br />enable the citizens of Cabarrus County to consider how, as individuals and <br />communities, they can meet the needs of bereaved mothers, fathers, and family <br />members and work to prevent the causes of these deaths; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners does hereby proclaim October 15, 2011 as <br />PREGNANCY AND INFANT LOSS REMEMBRANCE DAY IN CABARRUS COUNTY <br />Adopted this the 19 day of September, 2011. <br />/s/ H. Jay White, Sr., Chairman <br />Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners <br />(C -4) BOC - Proclamation Designating October 9 - 15 as DECA Week <br />Vice Chairman Poole advised DECA is a co- curricular club at the high <br />schools for students that are in marketing, finance or hospitality courses. <br />She stated scholarships can be earned as a result of participating in DECA <br />and read the proclamation aloud. <br />UPON MOTION of Commissioner Burrage, seconded by Commissioner Measmer <br />and unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following proclamation: <br />Proclamation No. 2011 -10 <br />Proclamation <br />WHEREAS, October 9 -15, 2011, has been designated DECA Week; and <br />WHEREAS, the mission of DECA is to prepare emerging leaders and entrepreneurs <br />in marketing, finance, hospitality and management; and <br />WHEREAS, DECA's guiding principles are designed to explain how DECA fulfills <br />their mission; and <br />WHEREAS, DECA enhances the co- curricular education of members through a <br />comprehensive learning program that integrates into classroom instruction, <br />applies learning, connects to business and promotes competition; and <br />WHEREAS, DECA's activities assist in the development of academically <br />prepared, community oriented, professionally responsible, experienced <br />leaders; and <br />WHEREAS, DECA's attributes and values describe the organization's priorities <br />and standards, including competence, innovation, integrity, and teamwork; <br />
