January 5, 2010 (Work Session) <br />Page 175 9 <br />An additional deputy to provide adequate coverage at all schools; <br />increase crime prevention efforts; promote student relations and <br />drug prevention programs. <br />Total Support Services Division Positions: 2 <br />Operations Division <br />Detective Unit <br />An additional position to be trained to become proficient in <br />investigation skills/techniques in order to provide needed <br />assistance to the existing detectives assigned to this unit. <br />Crime Scene/Prevention <br />Two (2) additional deputy positions to assist in crime scene <br />processing; to ensure compliance with crucial documentation <br />necessary to maintain the chain of custody for all evidence <br />processed; to assist with the proper disposal, transfer and <br />return of evidence; and to ensure proper storage of all evidence. <br />One (1) additional position to assist with Sex Offender <br />Registration. This position will further serve to ensure <br />compliance with the many requirements inherent in the sex <br />offender registration process and with required follow-up <br />investigations and verifications. <br />Warrants Unit <br />Two (2) sworn positions in order to provide more efficient <br />service of warrants; expand hours of operation; and decrease the <br />need to conduct warrant round-up which result in excessive <br />overtime costs. <br />Patrol Unit <br />Eight (8) additional deputy positions to increase staffing levels <br />in all Patrol Zones; to reduce overtime costs; to conduct more <br />pro-active, crime prevention activities; and to allow the <br />Lieutenants and Sergeants increased field supervision time. <br />Total Operations Division Positions: 14 <br />The recommendations of BCTS are based on a combination of <br />personal observations; historic, current and projected <br />statistical data; current and projected workload analysis, <br />interviews; and site visits.
