Further, <br />Candace Storey, Fair Manager, was elected.to serve a 3-year term on the Board <br />of Directors for the NCAOAF and was also appointed to serve on the Media <br />Awards and Convention Committees. Tonya Gill, Fair Coordinator, was <br />appointed to serve on the Awards and County Fair Showcase Committees. <br />Chairman White thanked and commended everyone for a job well done. <br />(C-2) Resolution Honoring the Memory and Achievements of Branson Coltrane <br />Jones <br />Vice Chairman Poole presented a resolution honoring the memory and <br />achievements of Branson Coltrane Jones, a lifelong friend and neighbor. She <br />spoke briefly of Mr. Jones's many contributions to Cabarrus County and <br />announced he passed away on January 31, 2010. She expressed her gratitude <br />for the Board's approval of the resolution and promised to deliver the <br />commemorative framed resolution to Mrs. Jones who was unable to attend the <br />meeting. <br />UPON MOTION of Commissioner Privette, seconded by Commissioner Carruth <br />and unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following resolution: <br />RESOLUTION <br />HONORING THE MEMORY AND ACHIEVEMENTS <br />OF <br />BRANSON COLTRANE JONES <br />Resolution No. 2010-03 <br />WHEREAS, Cabarrus County lost an outstanding citizen on January 31, <br />2010; and <br />WHEREAS, Branson C. Jones was a lifelong resident of Cabarrus County, <br />and a graduate of Concord High School in 1944, Presbyterian College in 1950 <br />and received an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree from Pfeiffer University in <br />1996; and <br />WHEREAS, Mr. Jones served in World War II in the U.S. Navy Seabees from <br />1945 - 1946; and <br />WHEREAS, Mr. Jones was employed by Cannon Mills Company from 1949 until <br />1986 (retirement); and from 1986 until 1990 while employed as Executive Vice <br />President - Economic Development and Industrial Recruiting, Mr. Jones <br />recruited various business and industry to Cabarrus County including Oiles <br />America Corporation where he was employed from 1990 until 1996 as Vice <br />President and Director and then as a Consultant; and <br />WHEREAS, Mr. Jones received numerous awards and honors such as 1960 <br />Jaycees' Young Man of the Year, 1991 Presidents Achievement Award from <br />Cabarrus Chamber of Commerce, 1996 Volunteer of the Year from Cabarrus <br />Economic Development Commission and 2000 named as one of Cabarrus County's <br />100 Most Influential People over the last 100 years; and <br />WHEREAS, Mr. Jones was an active participant in many civic affairs and <br />projects, having held leadership roles on the boards of many organizations in <br />the community, including but not limited to, Central United Methodist Church, <br />NorthEast Medical Center Foundation, Pfeiffer University, Catawba College, <br />Rowan Cabarrus Community College, Presbyterian College, Barber-Scotia <br />College, and City of Concord Planning and Zoning Board; and <br />WHEREAS, Mr. Jones contributed greatly to the growth and progress of <br />Cabarrus County and earned the respect and affection of everyone who was <br />privileged to know him; and <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners does hereby pay tribute to <br />Branson Coltrane Jones <br />A valued citizen who worked tirelessly to improve the quality of life <br />in Concord, Cabarrus County and beyond. We call upon all citizens of <br />Cabarrus County to remember the extraordinary contributions he made in this <br />community. <br />Adopted this the 15th day of February, 2010. <br />/s/ H.
