Jay White Sr., Chairman <br />Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners <br />Commissioner Mynatt commented briefly about her association with Mr. <br />Jones and his family since her move to Cabarrus County in 1976. <br />(C-3) BOC - Resolution Declarin February 17, 2010 as "Boy Scouts of America <br />Day" in Cabarrus County in Honor of their One Hundredth Anniversary <br />Commissioner Carruth announced that Bob Weatherman, District Executive <br />of the Boy Scouts for the Concord/Cabarrus district, and Andy Mesimer, Scout <br />Master of Troop 128 from Epworth United Methodist Church, is present. He <br />mentioned Boy Scout Troop 128 is celebrating their 50th anniversary this <br />year. He spoke briefly about his sons' affiliation with Troop 128 and their <br />participation at the 100th Anniversary Report to the Governor in Raleigh last <br />Monday. He stated the resolution is in recognition of the 100th anniversary <br />of the Boy Scouts of America formed on February 8, 1910. He commented on the <br />work and service of the organization and that the framed resolution will be <br />presented to Mr. Weatherman once the resolution is approved. <br />UPON MOTION of Commissioner Mynatt, seconded by Vice Chairman Poole and <br />unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following resolution: <br />Resolution No. 2010-04 <br />RESOLUTION DECLARING FEBRUARY 17, 2010 AS <br />"BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA DAY" IN CABARRUS COUNTY <br />IN HONOR OF THEIR ONE HUNDREDTH ANNIVERSARY <br />WHEREAS, the Boy Scouts of America celebrated the 100th Anniversary of <br />its formation on February 8, 2010; <br />WHEREAS, throughout its history, the Boy Scouts of America has <br />provided training to youth in leadership development, service to others, and <br />civic responsibility; <br />WHEREAS, numerous youth in our county have participated in the Scouting <br />Program through the years, being accomplished leaders both past and present; <br />WHEREAS, currently over 50 scouting organizations in Cabarrus County <br />provide positive leadership development to boys and girls of all ages in our <br />community; <br />WHEREAS, Boy Scouts have performed and continue to perform a variety of <br />valuable service projects throughout our county and its communities; <br />WHEREAS, a national study has shown that youth that participate in Boy <br />Scouts five or more years have: <br />• Improved performance in reading, science, math, and physical <br />fitness; <br />• A higher percentage of attendance in colleges and universities; <br />• Have obtained higher paying jobs; <br />• Display higher ethics in decision making; and, <br />• Have higher attendance rates at religious services with their <br />families. <br />WHEREAS, the national study has also shown that adults who were in Boy <br />Scouts as a youth have: <br />• Stated that scouting had a positive influence on their lives as <br />an adult and youth; <br />• Have learned positive character traits such as being a good team <br />player, always being honest, taking better care of the <br />environment, respecting the lives and property of others, having <br />pride in their country, respecting the elderly, and having higher <br />confidence in their abilities. <br />NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved that February 17, 2010 is hereby declared <br />"Boy Scouts of America Day" in Cabarrus County, in honor of the formation of <br />the Boy Scouts of America 100 years ago this month. <br />Adopted this the 15th day of February, 2010. <br />
