March 16, 2009 (Regular Meeting) Page 1278 <br />Commissioner Privette stated he made an announcement at a Pastor's <br />Conference regarding the need for volunteers to serve on these committees, <br />Vice Chairman Mynatt stated that as the liaison to the County's <br />Department of Aging Advisory Board, she would be glad to meet with members of <br />the committees to learn more about their responsibilities. She commented <br />that people may hesitate to apply to serve on these committees because of a <br />lack of understanding of what it may require. <br />Ms. Pensgen reported that any of the committee members, as well as <br />Laurie Abounader, Regional Ombudsman, would be happy to attend any group <br />meetings to make a presentation about the committees. <br />Chairman White announced that several appointments to both committees <br />had been made by the Board during the past year. <br />(C-2) Commerce - Central Land Area Land Uae Plan Receives Award of <br />Excellence <br />Commissioner Poole recognized the Commerce Department for receiving the <br />Region of Excellence Award for the Central Area Land Use Plan from the <br />Centralina Council of Government. The County was awarded in the Planning and <br />Sustainability category for its unique approach to land use planning. Susie <br />Morris, Planning & Zoning Manager, accepted the award on behalf of the <br />Department. <br />Chairman White. commended the Commerce Department and the City of <br />Concord for working together on this endeavor. <br />(C-3) Presentation of 2008 Cabarrus County Extension and Community <br />Association (ECA) Outstanding Community Sup orter Award <br />Debbie Bost, Cooperative Extension Director, announced that last year, <br />close to 200 members of the Cabarrus County Extension and Community <br />Association (ECA) donated 25,000 hours of community service in this <br />community. She stated it is an honor for this association to receive <br />recognition and in turn provide recognition to people that work with the <br />association and help them achieve their goals of working with families and <br />individuals in the community. <br />Gail Linker, immediate past ECA President, and Pat Wickliff, 2008 ECA <br />President, presented the Outstanding Community supporter Award to Chairman <br />White. <br />Chairman White graciously accepted the award. <br />(D) INFORMAL PUBLIC COMMENTS <br />Chairman White opened the meeting for Informal Public Comments at 6:57 <br />p.m. He stated each speaker would be limited to three minutes. <br />Price Crutchfield of 592 Love Street, Concord, expressed <br />dissatisfaction with the Concord Police Department, noting that he had been <br />wrongly arrested several times. <br />Lynda Delellis, resident of 6215 Denny Rumple Road, Kannapolis, stated <br />she is still having problems with teenagers driving on her private road late <br />at night, and she suspects the kids are involved in illegal activities. <br />With there being no one else to address the Board, Chairman White <br />closed that portion of the meeting. <br />(E) OLD BUSINESS <br />None. <br />(F) CONSENT AGENDA <br />(F-1) BOC - Joi: <br />Cabarrus County.
