Indicate if the Recipient will be affirmatively furthering fair housing for the first time or has implemented specific activities in the past. First Time Past Activities X II. Identify and analyze obstacles to affirmatively furthering fair housing in recipient's community. (Use additional pages as necessary) The main obstacles to Fair Housing in Cabarrus County are the costs of land and housing. The costs of land and housing limit the locations of available housing. Many citizens lack awareness of Fair Housing regulations and programs to assist families with Fair Housing issues. Citizen awareness is an issue that is easily dealt with. An aggressive advertising campaign can increase knowledge about Fair Housing Programs in Cabarrus County. The costs of land and housing are much more complicated issues. The cost of housing is a limiting factor. There are housing programs which attempt to create housing opportunities for low income persons. Many of these programs are marketed to minorities as well. These housing programs create new housing, remodel and update homes in older neighborhoods, and assist with appropriate regulations for rental housing. III. Briefly describe the activities that the recipient will undertake over the active period of the grant to affirmatively further fair housing in their community. A time schedule for implementation of these activities must be included. Activities must be scheduled for implementation at least on a quarterly basis. (Use additional pages as necessary.) Cabarrus County will publish fair housing advertisements in the local newspaper, on the local cable access channel and on our Website complete with the TDD number. We will distribute and display fair housing pamphlets to libraries, government offices, and financial institutions. We will post fair housing posters in government offices. Cabarrus County will have the local radio station advertise fair housing laws and complaint procedures. These activities will occur in the following sequence: Year l: 2007 1. ls` Quarter (June, July, August) Cable television fair housing advertisements and Website fair housing advertisement 2. 2rtd Quarter (September, October, November) Place fair housing pamphlets and fair housing posters from the NCHRC in local banks, government offices and libraries and Website notification 3. 3`d Quarter (December, January, February) Fair Housing advertisements on the local radio station and Website notification 9 Stn Quarter (March, April, May) News paper advertisement on Fair Housing regulations and complaint procedures, publishing the TDD number and Website notification Year 2: 2008 1. 1s` Quarter (June, July, August) Fair Housing advertisements on the local radio station and Website notification 2. 2ntl Quarter (September, October, November)
