July 23, 2007 (Regular Meeting) Page 992 <br />On behalf of the Board, Commissioner White presented a plaque to Mr. <br />Little in appreciation for his service to Cabarrus County and its citizens. <br />Mr. Little accepted the award and thanked everyone for their support. <br />(C-3) Proclamation - Mount Pleasant High School's Odyeaey of the Mind Team <br />The Board recognized the Mount Pleasant High School's Odyssey of the <br />Mind Team for their 6`h place finish in the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals <br />Competition. The Board also presented the following proclamation to each <br />team member as well as a County lapel pin: <br />Proclamation No. 2007-09 <br />PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS Excellence in education is recognized by the Board as an <br />important foundation to Cabarrus County's future economic stability, and; <br />WHEREAS A team of students from Mount Pleasant High School <br />dedicated personal time to compete in the Odyssey of the Mind competition and <br />advanced to the Odyssey of the Mind 2007 World Finals, and; <br />WHEREAS The Mount Pleasant High School team is comprised of Wyatt <br />Algeier, Matt Enderlein, John Goff, Adam Newton, David Treadaway and <br />Coach/Advisor Mrs. Marnie Stoker, and; <br />WHEREAS The Mount Pleasant High School team placed 6`" in the <br />competition as well as received Omer's Award at the 2007 World Finals for <br />exceeding expectations by incorporating a highly technical device into a <br />classics problem and showed exceptional engineering ability at the same time; <br />NOW THEREFORE The Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners does hereby <br />recognize Mount Pleasant High School's Odyssey of the Mind team and asks the <br />residents of Cabarrus County to join us in commending them for a job well <br />done. <br />This the 23rd day of July, 2007. <br />/s/ Robert W. Carruth, Chairman <br />Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners <br />(C-6) Proclamation - Gideon Whaley, Charlotte Observer Regional Spelling Bee <br />Winner & Scripps National Spelling Bee Contestant <br />The Board recognized Gideon Whaley, an eighth-grade student at C.C. <br />Griffin Middle School, for winning the Charlotte Observer Regional Spelling <br />Bee and advancing to the semifinals of the Scripps National Spelling Bee. <br />The Board also presented the following proclamation to Mr. Whaley as well as <br />a County lapel pin: <br />Proclamation No. 2007-OS <br />PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS Excellence in education is recognized by the Board as an <br />important foundation to Cabarrus County's future economic stability, and; <br />WHEREAS Gideon Whaley, an eighth-grade student at C.C. Griffin <br />Middle School, won the Charlotte Observer Regional Spelling Bee and advanced <br />to the Scripps National Spelling Bee, and; <br />WHEREAS Gideon Whaley is the first Cabarrus County student to <br />represent our region in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, and; <br />WHEREAS Gideon Whaley advanced to the semifinals of the Scripps <br />National Spelling Bee; <br />NOW THEREFORE, the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners does hereby <br />recognize Champion Speller Gideon Whaley and asks the residents of Cabarrus <br />County to join us in commending him for a job well done. <br />This the 23`d day of July, 2007. <br />/s/ Robert W.
