The proposed change is to increase the gymnasium playing floor size in length from 66 feet to 80-84 feet. The Odell School is the only sufficiently sized community gymnasium available for the youth league association in the Northwest Cabarrus District. Preliminary estimates range from $75,000.00 to $125,000.00 per school. A budget amendment will be brought back to the Board for approval after the actual costs are determined. UPON MOTION of Commissioner Carpenter, seconded by Commissioner Freeman and unanimously carried, the Board agreed to the proposed modifications and to provide funds for an enlargement of gymnasiums at Furr and Boger Elementary Schools. The bids were opened on February 15, 2006 and costs will be determined with the overall low bidder for the requested gymnasium modifications. (F-12) Authorization to Award Service Weapon to Roger D. Horton on His Retirement from the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Department UPON MOTION of Commissioner Carpenter, seconded by Commissioner Freeman and unanimously carried, the Board, pursuant to N.C. General Statute 20- 187.2, declared surplus and authorized the award of the service weapon (Sig, 40 Caliber, Model P226R, Serial #U684336 for the price of $1. 00 to Roger D. Horton on his retirement from the Sheriff's Department. ITEMS REMOVED FROM THE CONSENT AGENDA FOR DISCUSSION (F-9) Automatic External Defibrillators (AED) Purchase for AED' 8, AED Policy and Memorandum of Health Alliance Budget Agreement Amendment for wi th Cabarrus AS part of the Safety Program for Cabarrus County, staff requested the purchase of 15 Automatic External Defibrillators (AED) to place in locations throughout County facilities. A grant was received from the Cabarrus Health Alliance to receive two additional AED' s and a Memorandum of Agreement with the Health Alliance is required. Also, training classes for all County employees on the operation of the AED's and CPR have been scheduled. Commissioner Carpenter questioned the possibility of having a time for the Board members to be trained on use of the AED's. Also, she questioned the placement of an AED at the Cabarrus Health Alliance. Mike Downs, Deputy County Manager, reported that an AED would be located near the security station in the Human Services building. He invited Board members to a class on February 22 and stated an additional class could be scheduled for the Board. UPON MOTION of Commissioner Carpenter, seconded by Commissioner Privette and unanimously carried, the Board approved the following budget revision to fund the Automatic External Defibrillators (AED's), approved the AED Policy and authorized the County Manager to sign the Memorandum of Agreement between Cabarrus County Governmental Center and Cabarrus Health Alliance. BUDGET REVISION/AMENDMENT REQUEST DEPARTMENT OF RISK MANAGEMENT AMOUNT: $17,000.00 TYPE OF ADJUSTMENT: Supplemental Request PURPOSE OF REQUEST: Funding provided from Self Insured Liability for the purchase of 15 AED units and cabinets to be installed in various designated locations within County facilities.
