The proposed change is to increase <br />the gymnasium playing floor size in length from 66 feet to 80-84 feet. The <br />Odell School is the only sufficiently sized community gymnasium available for <br />the youth league association in the Northwest Cabarrus District. Preliminary <br />estimates range from $75,000.00 to $125,000.00 per school. A budget <br />amendment will be brought back to the Board for approval after the actual <br />costs are determined. <br /> <br />UPON MOTION of Commissioner Carpenter, seconded by Commissioner Freeman <br />and unanimously carried, the Board agreed to the proposed modifications and <br />to provide funds for an enlargement of gymnasiums at Furr and Boger <br />Elementary Schools. The bids were opened on February 15, 2006 and costs will <br />be determined with the overall low bidder for the requested gymnasium <br />modifications. <br /> <br />(F-12) Authorization to Award Service Weapon to Roger D. Horton on His <br />Retirement from the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Department <br /> <br />UPON MOTION of Commissioner Carpenter, seconded by Commissioner Freeman <br />and unanimously carried, the Board, pursuant to N.C. General Statute 20- <br />187.2, declared surplus and authorized the award of the service weapon (Sig, <br />40 Caliber, Model P226R, Serial #U684336 for the price of $1. 00 to Roger D. <br />Horton on his retirement from the Sheriff's Department. <br /> <br />ITEMS REMOVED FROM THE CONSENT AGENDA FOR DISCUSSION <br /> <br />(F-9) Automatic External Defibrillators (AED) <br />Purchase for AED' 8, AED Policy and Memorandum of <br />Health Alliance <br /> <br />Budget <br />Agreement <br /> <br />Amendment for <br />wi th Cabarrus <br /> <br />AS part of the Safety Program for Cabarrus County, staff requested the <br />purchase of 15 Automatic External Defibrillators (AED) to place in locations <br />throughout County facilities. A grant was received from the Cabarrus Health <br />Alliance to receive two additional AED' s and a Memorandum of Agreement with <br />the Health Alliance is required. Also, training classes for all County <br />employees on the operation of the AED's and CPR have been scheduled. <br /> <br />Commissioner Carpenter questioned the possibility of having a time for <br />the Board members to be trained on use of the AED's. Also, she questioned the <br />placement of an AED at the Cabarrus Health Alliance. <br /> <br />Mike Downs, Deputy County Manager, reported that an AED would be <br />located near the security station in the Human Services building. He invited <br />Board members to a class on February 22 and stated an additional class could <br />be scheduled for the Board. <br /> <br />UPON MOTION of Commissioner Carpenter, seconded by Commissioner <br />Privette and unanimously carried, the Board approved the following budget <br />revision to fund the Automatic External Defibrillators (AED's), approved the <br />AED Policy and authorized the County Manager to sign the Memorandum of <br />Agreement between Cabarrus County Governmental Center and Cabarrus Health <br />Alliance. <br /> <br />BUDGET REVISION/AMENDMENT REQUEST <br /> <br />DEPARTMENT OF RISK MANAGEMENT <br />AMOUNT: $17,000.00 <br />TYPE OF ADJUSTMENT: Supplemental Request <br />PURPOSE OF REQUEST: Funding provided from Self Insured Liability for the <br />purchase of 15 AED units and cabinets to be installed in various designated <br />locations within County facilities. <br /> <br />Present <br />Approved Budget <br /> <br />Increase <br /> <br />Decrease <br /> <br />Account No. <br /> <br />Revised Budget <br />
