<br />January 10, 2005 (Recessed Meeting) <br /> <br />Page 52 <br /> <br />Insurance and Bonds <br />00161710-6901 $6,205,003.52 <br />Fund Balance Appropriated <br /> <br />$8,966.00 <br /> <br />$6,213,969.52 <br /> <br />(~o) Proclamation - Dr. MarCiii LUther King, Jr., 'bay (January ~7, 2005) <br /> <br />Commissioner Freeman reported that Reverend Roland Jordan had requested <br />that the Board adopt a Proclamation in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, <br />Jr., Day. <br /> <br />UPON MOTION of Commissioner Privette, seconded by Commissioner Freeman <br />and unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following Proclamation. <br /> <br />PROCLAMATION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Dr. <br />Atlanta, Georgia, <br />racism in America; <br /> <br />Martin Luther King, Jr., was born on January 15, 1929 in <br />and devoted his life to fighting poverty, injustice and <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Dr. King, through his practi~e of non-violent protest, <br />promoted the importance of love, peace and freedom for humankind and <br />challenged- America to honor its promise of liberty and justice for all <br />citizens; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, during his lifetime, Dr. King sought to forge the common <br />ground on which individuals of all ages, races and backgrounds could join <br />together to address important community issues and provide service to their <br />community; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the third Monday in January has been established as a national <br />holiday to observe the anniversary of Dr. King's birth. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners hereby <br />proclaims Monday, January 17, 2005, as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in <br />Cabarrus County and encourages all citizens to join in the special programs <br />and ceremonies to be held on January 15 - 17 honoring the life and work of <br />Dr. King and his legacy of peace and equality for all citizens. <br /> <br />Adopted this 10th day of January 2005. <br /> <br />/s/ Carolyn B. 'Carpenter , Chairman <br />Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners <br /> <br />(~2) Appointments to the Ani~a1 Protection and Preservation Advisory <br />Committee <br /> <br />At its meeting on July 26, 2004, the Board established an Animal <br />Protection and Preservation Advisory Committee as recommended by the Animal <br />Control and Preservation Task Force. The Board named Chairman Carpenter as <br />the Commissioner member on the advisory committee at its December 6th meeting. <br /> <br />UPON koi'J:6N of Chairman Carpenter, seconded by Vice Chairman Carruth <br />and unanimously carried, the Board appointed the following citizens to the <br />Animal Protection and Preservation Advisory Committee: Two-year terms ending <br />June 30, 2007 - Lt. David Taylor (County Animal Control Officer), Dr. Stewart <br />Roberts (Licensed Veterinarian), Patsy Beeker (501c3 Humane Animal <br />Organization) and Ruth DeMarcus (At-large); One-year terms ending June 30, <br />2006 - Karen Britt (501c3 Humane Animal Organization) and Lora Burrage (At" <br />large) . <br /> <br />(~3) Appointments of Liaison~ tb Municipal Boards <br /> <br />Chairman Carpenter listed the following appointments of Commissioner <br />liaisons to Municipal Boards: Concord City Council - Vice Chairman Carruthi <br />Kannapolis City Council Commissioner Jubai Harrisburg Town Council <br />Chairman Carpenteri Mt. Pleasant Board of Commissioners Commissioner <br />Freeman; and Midland Town Council and Locust City Council Commissioner <br />Privette. <br /> <br />UPON MOTiON of Commissioner Freeman, seconded by Commissioner Juba and <br />unanimously carried, the Board approved the appointments of the Commissioner <br />liaisons to municipal boards as presented by Chairman Carpenter (see above) . <br />
