<br />July 14, 2005 - Regular Meeting <br /> <br />Page <br /> <br />262 <br /> <br />Commissioner Privette presented the following Proclamation honoring <br />Wayne Teasley on his retirement from Time Warner Cable: <br /> <br />PROCLAMATION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Wayne Teasley is retiring from Time Warner Cable after he has been <br />filming the meetings of the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners since 1988 <br />as part of the County's agreement with Time Warner Cable, and; <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Wayne Teasley has the important job of operating Camera 2 which <br />focuses on the Board chairman and has responsibility for cuing the beginning <br />of meetings, andj <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Wayne Teasley does extensive work behind the scenes as technical <br />coordinator to ensure meetings are filmed without a glitch, andi <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Wayne Teasley has worked against the odds, even running cable <br />through the front door, over the balcony and over the Board's bench when <br />Board meetings first moved to the Cabarrus County Governmental Center, and; <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br />meetings <br />meetings <br /> <br />Wayne Teasley has worked tireless hours to <br />for public viewing, including working into <br />that extended beyond five hours in length. <br /> <br />film <br />the <br /> <br />Commissioners' <br />wee hours for <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, the Cabarrus <br />recognize Wayne Teasley of <br />Cabarrus County to join us in <br /> <br />County Board of Commissioners does hereby <br />Time Warner Cable and asks the residents of <br />commending him for a job well done. <br /> <br />This the 14th day of July, 2005. <br />Is/: Robert W. Carruth, Vice Chairman <br />Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners <br /> <br />Mr. Teasley accepted the proclamation and expressed appreciation for <br />the recognition. <br /> <br />Chuck Lowery, Production Manager, Public Affairs, Charlotte Division of <br />Time Warner Cable, expressed appreciation for the recognition of Mr. Teasley. <br />He complimented Mr. Teasley on a job well done throughout his 16-year tenure. <br /> <br />(D) INFORMAL PUBLIC COMMENTS <br /> <br />Vice Chairman Carruth opened -the meeting for Informal Public Comments <br />at 6:50 p.m. He stated each speaker would be limited to three minutes. <br /> <br />Paul Penney, resident of Hunter's Trace Drive in Concord, publicly <br />thanked the Board for rezoning the Odell area to a minimum of one acre lots <br />and applauded the efforts made to strengthen the County's ordinances. <br />However, he was concerned about recent news articles and rumors that the <br />Board was considering compromises that would allow the following subdivisions <br />to proceed: Wellington Chase, Pelham Point and Waterford. He stated the <br />aforementioned subdivisions were previously denied due to a lack of school <br />adequacy and those conditions still exists. He encouraged the Board not to <br />back down and not let the threat of a law suit cause the Board to lose its <br />courage and integrity. Finally, he said let the courts provide a fair <br />hearing and prove that the Board's decisions have been correct. <br /> <br />Tom Doran of Kingsview Drive in Davidson expressed appreciation for the <br />Board's recent actions on redefining how Cabarrus County will be zoned. <br />Further, he expressed appreciation to the Board of Commissioners for doing a <br />"thankless" job and encouraged them to stay true to their word. <br /> <br />Cary Gluf, resident of Spring Street NW in Concord and member of the <br />Cabarrus Accessible Action Committee (CAAC) , expressed appreciation for the <br />proclamation declaring July 26 as "Spirit of the ADA Celebration Day." He <br />encouraged citizens to attend the celebration at the Senior Center. Further, <br />he complimented David Montague's representation and performance as a member <br />of the CAAC. <br /> <br />Joseph Hurst, who operates a jujitsu school on Corban Avenue, stated <br />his business is located on the site of the new Jail. He expressed concerns <br />about the relocation of his business and asked if the County would be <br />compensating those business owners who must move from the Corban Avenue site. <br />
