Bid Award - Emergency Medical Services - Ambulances (3) Type III

The following bids were received on September 25, 1995 for three
ambulances, Type III, for Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

COMPANy,
$182,850.00

Ms. Sherri Barnhardt, Purchasing Agent, and Mr. David Hampton, EMS Training
Officer, recommended the award of the bid to the low bidder, First Response. In
response to concerns about the safety of the Ford ambulances, Mr. Hampton
reported that the County EMS has experienced no problems with the existing Ford
vehicles which have the single belt system.

UPON MOTION of Commissioner Olio-Mills, seconded by Commissioner Fennel and
unanimously carried, the Board awarded the bid for the purchase of three
ambulances, Type III, for Emergency Medical Services to the low bidder, First
Response, in the amount of $179,649.00.

Bid Award - Sheriff's Department Vehicles

The following bids were received on September 25, 1995, for 12 full-size
police package automobiles for the Sheriff's Department.

COMPANY
Hilbish Motor Company
Town & Country Ford

BID
$220,944.00
$220,884.00

The Board discussed the $60.00 difference of the two bids. Also, the Board
compared the estimated personnel costs of $360.00 to pick up the vehicles at the
low bidder in Charlotte and $135.00 to pick up the vehicles at the high bidder
in Kannapolis.

UPON MOTION of Commissioner Fennel, seconded by Commissioner Olio-Mills and
unanimously carried, the Board awarded the bid for the 12 law enforcement
vehicles to the second lowest bidder, Hilbish Motor Company, in the amount of
$220,944.00 because it is less expensive to pick up the vehicles at Hilbish Motor
Company in Kannapolis than to pick up the vehicles at Town and Country Ford in
Charlotte.
