86 <br /> <br /> proportions in North Carolina with over 94,000 children <br /> reported abused or neglected in fiscal year 1992-93; and <br />WHEREAS, North Carolina faces a continuing need to support <br /> innovative programs to prevent child abuse and assist <br /> parents and family members when child abuse occurs; and <br />WHEREAS, preventing child abuse and neglect is the responsibility <br /> of all citizens, and; <br />WHEREAS, every child is entitled to be loved, cared for, nurtured <br /> and to feel secure; <br />WHEREAS, community action is needed to help break the cycle of <br /> child abuse, and; <br />WHEREAS, it is vital that we join forces to reach out to parents <br /> and children and prevent child abuse and neglect; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that April, 1994, is Child Abuse <br />Prevention Month in Gabarrus County, and I call upon every citizen <br />to observe the month by joining with Prevent Child Abuse, North <br />Carolina and other child abuse protection and prevention <br />organizations, groups, and individuals in observance of the month <br />with appropriate programs and activities. <br /> <br />ADOPTED this the 18th day of April, 1994. <br /> <br />BY: /s/ Jeffrey L. C. Bankhead, Jr., Director of Curriculum, Public Relations, <br />Communities in Schools., and Grant Seeking with the Cabarrus County Schools, <br />reported that the local school system wished to apply for an <br />intervention/prevention grant for funds to set up an alternative curriculum for <br />the middle school students in the county. The 1994 Extra Session of the North <br />Carolina General Assembly had allocated funds for this grant program with the <br />requirement that a local task force be appointed to participate in the <br />development of a grant proposal. Therefore, Dr. Bankhead requested that the <br />Board appoint the members of an existing schools grant committee, along with Ms. <br />Mary Isenhour, to a Local Task Force for the Intervention/Prevention Grant for <br />the Cabarrus County Schools.. <br /> <br /> <br />
