If the use of the weapon was <br /> appropriate, the employee will be reinstated with no <br /> loss of pay. <br /> b. If the use of the weapon was inappropriate, the employee <br /> may be suspended without pay or dismissed. <br />Use of Assigned Weapons <br /> a. Training <br /> Ail Animal Control Officers will satisfactorily complete <br /> annual weapons qualification training with all support <br /> weapons. Failure to qualify will result in the officer <br /> not being allowed to use assigned weapon. <br /> b. Uniform <br /> Animal Control Officer will only use their assigned <br /> weapon while on duty and in uniform. <br /> c. Sidearm <br /> The only sidearm that is permitted to be carried by an <br /> officer is a tranquilizer sidearm. <br /> d. Rifle/Shotgun <br /> This weapon will be used upon the approval of the <br /> Supervisor or his designee for destruction of large <br /> animals in the field, such as: large dogs, some forms of <br /> wildlife, or farm animals. <br /> e. Personal Firearms <br /> SHALL BE PROHIBITED. <br /> f. Inspections <br /> The Animal Control Supervisor will inspect all weapons <br /> at least monthly. <br /> g. Storage <br /> Ail department support weapons and ammunition will be <br /> stored in a cabinet at the shelter. <br /> h. Notification Reports <br /> Any time a support weapon is drawn or fired, other than <br /> in a training environment, the following will be made: <br /> 1. Verbal - An immediate report must be made to the <br /> Supervisor. <br /> 2. Written You must give the Animal Control <br /> supervisor a written report within eight (8) <br /> hours or the next normal work day explaining the <br /> incident. The Animal Control Supervisor will <br /> review the report and incident and submit written <br /> recommendations to the County Health Director or <br /> his/her designee within twenty-four (24) hours or <br /> the next normal work day. <br /> <br /> Fire Arm Training <br />In-Service Firearms Qualification Program <br /> <br />For the Criminal Justice Standards Commission sworn personnel who <br />are certified shall be required to qualify with their duty weapon a <br />minimum of once each year on a commission approved day and night <br />course. Sworn, certified personnel who are issued or who have access <br />to a shotgun, long weapon or automatic weapon would be required to <br />qualify on a commission approved (unless otherwise indicated) course <br />a minimum of once each calendar year. <br />1. In-Service Training will consist of approximately 40-50 hours. <br />2. Course will be established especially for Animal Control. <br />3. Standards set which would include: Physical Fitness, Firearms <br />Safety, Emergency First Aid, and Well Being. <br /> <br /> Commissioner Payne asked that the Board receive written reports on any <br />shootings that occur during the first 90 days. <br /> <br />Presentation of Cabarrus County Sanitary Landfill Transition Plan by Camp Dresser <br />& McKee <br /> <br /> Mr. Joe Wiseman, Engineer with Camp Dresser & McKee presented an overview <br />of the Sanitary Landfill Transition Plan. The Transition Plan addressed such <br />issues as the amount of landfill space remaining at the current site, the <br />establishment of a closure date, and expansion plans for the existing landfill. <br /> <br /> <br />
