225 <br /> <br /> Sick leave shall be granted to an employee absent from work for <br />any of the following reasons: sickness, bodily injury, required <br />physical examinations, dental examinations and treatment, or <br />exposure to a contagious disease when continuing work might <br />jeopardize the health of others. <br /> <br /> Sick Leave may also be used when illness, injury, or a medical <br />appointment of a member of an employee's immediate family requires <br />the presence of the employee, but may not exceed forty-eight (48) <br />hours [sixty-four (64) hours for Emergency Medical Services <br />Personnel] for any one calendar year. Sick leave may be used for <br />death in the employee's immediate family, but may not exceed <br />twenty-four (24) hours [thirty-two (32) hours for Emergency Medical <br />Services Personnel] for any one occurrence, except by special <br />permission from the department head. <br /> <br /> Immediate family shall be deemed to include spouse, mother, <br />father, guardian, children, sister, brother, grandparents, <br />grandchildren, plus the various combinations of half, step, in-law, <br />and adoptive relationships that can be derived from those named. <br /> <br /> Notification of the desire to take sick leave should be <br />submitted to the employee's supervisor prior to the leave or not <br />later than two (2) hours after the beginning of the scheduled <br />workday. <br /> <br /> Commissioner Barnhart asked that the record show that he asked that the <br />amendment as revised by the Board go back to staff for review prior to adoption. <br /> <br />Proposed Revision to the Animal Control Ordinance <br /> <br /> Ms. Jan Bryant, Chief Animal Control Officer, reviewed the proposed <br />addition to Article I, Section 9, "Restraint of Animals", of the Animal Control <br />Ordinance. <br /> <br /> UPON MOTIONof Chairman Carpenter, seconded by Commissioner Barnhart with <br />Commissioners Barnhart and Payne and Chairman Carpenter voting for and <br />Commissioner Casper voting against, the Board adopted on first reading the <br />amendment to add the following to the Animal Control Ordinance. <br /> <br />Include the following as Item #2, Article I, Section 9 "Restraint of <br />Animals": <br /> <br />"Adult with Animal on Premises. If a responsible adult is <br />physically outside on the land immediately adjacent to the animal, <br />on the land where the owner of the animal resides, and the animal is <br />under the person's direct control and is obedient to that person's <br />commands, then this section shall not apply during the duration of <br />time the animal is in the company and under the control of that <br />adult and the animal is on the premises, "Adult" is defined as <br />eighteen (18) years of age or older." <br /> <br />Subsequent items in Section 9 which already exist were renumbered <br />accordingly. <br /> <br /> Commissioner Casper proposed that a seeing eye dog or other animals that <br />been specially trained to assist the handicapped be exempt from Section 9, <br />Restraint of Animals. The Board by consensus agreed for Chairman Carpenter to <br />ask the Health Board to look at the possibility of making an exception to Section <br />9 for these specially trained animals. <br /> <br />Water and Sewer District Meeting <br /> <br /> Chairman Carpenter recessed the meeting of the Board of Commissioners until <br />the conclusion of meeting of the Water and Sewer District Commissioners. <br /> <br />Chairman Carpenter reconvened the meeting of the Board of Commissioners. <br /> <br /> <br />
