404 <br /> <br />Commissioner Payne volunteered to coordinate a meeting of the committee. <br /> <br />Alternatives for Meeting DSS and Recreation Facility Needs <br /> <br /> The options as listed in the August 27, 1993 memorandum from Mr. <br />Witherspoon and included in the agenda were as follows: <br /> <br />Option 1: <br />DSS into <br />$25,000.00. <br /> <br />Move Recreation to the barn at Frank Liske Park and move <br />the space vacated by Recreation. Estimated cost <br /> <br />Option 2: Move Recreation to Multipurpose Room of Governmental <br />Genter and move DSS into space vacated by Recreation. Estimated <br />cost $17,000.00. <br /> <br />Optio'n 3: Move Recreation to the Senior Center and move DSS into <br />space vacated by Recreation. Move DOA in-home services to DSS. <br />Move Weatherization to General Services. Estimated savings <br />$74,000.00. <br /> <br />Option 4: Buy and locate mobile unit at Frank Liske Park for <br />Recreation and move DSS into present Recreation Department. <br />Estimated cost $30,000.00. <br /> <br /> Mr. Witherspoon explained that his goal in offering these options was to <br />save money and to avoid the purchase of a manufactured office building for the <br />Department of Social Services. He clarified that the committee would be working <br />under these same guidelines in developing its recommendation to the Board. <br /> <br /> Chairman Carpenter requested all Board members to submit any written <br />proposals to meet space needs to Mr. Witherspoon by 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday, <br />September 21. <br /> <br />Concord High School Band Trip to Ireland <br />Concord Band Boosters <br /> <br />Mr, Dan McDonald, Vice-President, <br /> <br /> Mr. Dan McDonald presented information regarding the Concord High School <br />Band trip to Ireland to participate in Dublin's Annual Saint Patrick's Day Parade <br />in March of 1994. He explained that the Concord Band Boosters are sponsoring <br />"Ireland Forever" to help finance the trip and asked that the Board offer its <br />support to the project. <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Chairman Carpenter, seconded by Commissioner Payne and <br />unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following Resolution of Support. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />at the invitation of the Lord Mayor of Dublin and the <br />Government of Ireland, the Concord High School Band, <br />along with four other bands from the United States, has <br />been selected to represent our country in Dublin's <br />Annual Saint Patrick's Day Parade in March of 1994; and <br />the Saint Patrick's Day Parade is an international event <br />which will showcase a select group of marching units <br />from Ireland, the United States, and several other <br />European countries; and <br />the Concord High School Band will also serve as Musical <br />Ambassadors to Concord's sister city - Killarney, <br />Ireland; and <br />the trip to the Ireland will be a unique educational <br />opportunity for the members of the Concord High School <br />Band; and <br />the Concord Band Boosters are sponsoring IRELAND <br />FOREVER, a project to help finance the cost of this <br />once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the Concord High <br />School Band members. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Cabarrus County Board <br />of Commissioners does hereby support the Concord High's Band trip to <br /> <br /> <br />
