533 <br /> <br />Chairman Carpenter reconvened the meeting of the Board of County <br />Commissioners. <br /> The Board by consensus added to the agenda items relative to property <br />acquisition and the appointment of Tax Collector. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Hamby, seconded by Commissioner Payne with <br />Commissioners Hamby, Payne, and Barnhart and Chairman Carpenter voting for, the <br />Board authorized the issuance of a Notice of Action to Lois W. Smith for the <br />acquisition or condemnation of approximately 33.5 acres on the south side of <br />Highway 73 and the east side of Coddle Creek for $92,000.00 for a future water <br />treatment plant and appurtenant facilities. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Hamby, seconded by Commissioner Barnhart with <br />Commissioners Hamby, Barnhart, and Payne and Chairman Carpenter voting for, the <br />Board adopted the following resolution. <br /> <br />Upon the retirement of Ms. Derelle Kiser, Tax Collector, who has <br />done an outstanding job over the years and has brought great credit <br />to that office, the Board does hereby appoint Mr. Terry Rowland as <br />Tax Collector to serve a term concurrent with his current term as <br />Tax Assessor. Mr. Rowland's term of appointment as Tax Assessor/Tax <br />Collector will expire on June 30, 1993. <br /> <br /> The Board presented a plaque to the Clerk to the Board in appreciation for <br />her work during the past year. <br /> The Board be consensus approved the following Proclamations and authorized <br />the Chairman to sign each on behalf of Cabarrus County. <br /> <br /> PROCLAMATION <br />NATIONAL SENIOR NUTRITION <br />--More Than Just a Meal-- <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />during 1992 over 145 million meals will be served to <br />approximately 2.7 million Americans age sixty-plus, in <br />a congregate setting, where both the needs for good <br />nutrition and fellowship are met; <br />over 115 million home-delivered meals will be served to <br />approximately 728 thousand Americans age sixty-plus, <br />during the same period; <br />the dedication of volunteers to helping people receive <br />hot nutritious meals each day ensures the continued <br />well-being of so many persons; <br />community based home-delivered and congregate meal <br />programs make possible the joint use of public and <br />private funds and resources to serve older people; <br />nutritious food is an essential ingredient to the <br />maintenance of life; and <br />the aged are revered members of society. <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED THAT, May 11-15 be declared National Senior Nutrition <br />Week More Than Just a Meal, in affirmation of the value of these <br />services provided to ensure the well-being of older Americans, and <br />that the members of Concord be commended for supporting and enabling <br />legislation. <br /> <br />Signed /s/ Carolyn B.
