7O <br /> <br /> Ms. DOnna Jamison, Midland resident, objected to the proposed motorsports <br />facility and stated it would be a devastation to the citizens and the <br />agricultural economy of the area. She expressed concern for the safety of the <br />children due to the increase of traffic on Highway 601. Also, Mrs. Jamison <br />stated that the noise created by the racing facility would negatively impact the <br />poultry breeding and laying houses in the area and would disrupt Sunday morning <br />church services. <br /> <br /> Mr. Mike Barrett of 3800 Garmon Mill Road in Midland supported the proposed <br />motorsports facility and stated the facility would be an asset to Midland and <br />Cabarrus County. He commented that the facility would help to bring water and <br />sewer services to the community and would have a positive economic impact on the <br />area. <br /> <br /> Mr. David Eudy of Summerhill Development objected to the proposed drag <br />strip. He stated the noise and traffic generated by the facility would make it <br />difficult to sell the homes which are presently under construction in the Deer <br />Run Development in the Midland area. <br /> <br /> Mr. Allen Burnette of 12737 Highway 601 supported the drag strip and stated <br />it would benefit the community. He reported that 335 persons had signed a <br />petition in support of the facility during the last two days. <br /> <br /> Mr. Freddie Kiser of Wallace Road spoke in support of the proposed <br />facility. He stated that a flier distributed in the Fairview School in Union <br />County contained incorrect information regarding such items as expected <br />attendance, noise level, the consumption of fuel, the disposal of oil and other <br />toxic wastes, and the frequency of the NHRA racing events at the facility. <br /> <br /> Mr. Billy Martin of Cabarrus Farms Road objected to the motorsports <br />facility, stating it would lessen the quality of life in the quiet, rural area <br />of Midland. He stated that the additional traffic would overload the roads and <br />that the nuisance created by the noise would lower property values. Mr. Martin <br />indicated that he would prefer the development of industries in the area to the <br />proposed drag strip. <br /> <br /> Mr. Danny Love opposed the drag strip and stated it would cause an increase <br />in traffic, litter, crime and alcohol in the area. Stating the need for an <br />Environmental Impact Study, Mr. Love questioned the facility's impact on the area <br />wells, wildlife, roads, and the elementary school. <br /> <br /> Mr. Bob McCoy of Midland objected to the proposed motorsports facility. He <br /> stated it would have a negative impact on the community and asked that an <br />Environmental Impact Study be completed. <br /> <br /> Ms. Carol Walters objected to the proposed facility. She stated concerns <br />relative to noise, traffic flow, and decrease in property value. <br /> <br /> Ms. Susan Kiker of Wallace Road supported the development of the <br />motorsports facility. <br /> <br /> ~ere was a show of hands of those persons present who were either for or <br />against the proposed motorsports facility. A large number of persons were <br />present for both sides. <br /> <br /> Mr. Robert Shinn of the Georgeville area expressed concern regarding the <br />drinking water in that area of the county. Information is to be provided to Mr. <br />Shinn regarding water service in the Georgeville community. <br /> <br /> Chairman Carpenter recognized Mr. Rob Wallace, owner of the proposed <br />motorsports facility. Mr. Wallace indicated that he was present to hear the <br />concerns of the residents but had no comments to make at that time. <br /> <br /> Mr. Gerald Newton, Director of Planning, Zoning and Building Inspection, <br />expressed concern regarding accusations against his staff and their involvement <br />with the proposed facility. He reiterated that the drag strip is a permitted use <br />on the property and that Mr. Wallace has secured proper zoning and building <br />permits for the project. <br /> <br /> <br />
