378 <br /> <br />Section 6, Pay Rates in Promotion, Demotion, Transfer, <br />Recl~sification <br /> (a) When an emploYee is promoted, or transferred, or <br /> reclassified to an equal or higher pay range, then <br /> the employee shall be placed at a point on the <br /> new range comparable to the point on the old range <br /> at which the employee had been paid, providing <br /> that the increased salary shall not exceed 7.5 <br /> percent. <br /> (b) When an employee is demoted or has a job status <br /> change which results in a lower pay range being <br /> assigned to the employee's job, the employee's pay <br /> shall remain the same except that it shall not <br /> exceed 7.5 percent over the maximum of the new <br /> range. <br /> (c) Section 6(b) above shall not apply to demotions <br /> for disciplinary reasons. <br /> (d) If the 7.5 percent maximumpresents an unusual or <br /> inequitable situation, the County Manager may <br /> prepare a policy exception for approval by the <br /> Board of Commissioners. <br /> <br />Section 7. <br /> <br />Pay Rates in Pay Plan Adjustments <br /> <br />and <br /> <br /> When the Board of Commissioners approves a change in salary <br />range for a class of positions, the salaries of the employees whose <br />positions are allocated to that class shall be affected as follows: <br /> (a) When a class of positions is assigned to a higher <br /> salary range, employees shall be increased to the <br /> minimum for the higher salary range or retain <br /> their current rate of pay, whichever rate of pay <br /> is greater. <br /> (b) When. a class of positions is assigned to a lower <br /> salary range, employees will move to the new <br /> salary grade and will retain their current rate <br /> of pay, not to exceed the maximum rate of pay of <br /> the salary grade by more 7.5 percent. <br /> <br />Section 8, Limit on Within-the-Range Pay Increments <br /> No employee shall receive more than one within-the-range pay <br />increase in any 12-month period. Employee anniversary dates for <br />merit increases shall be adjusted accordingly. The increase <br />received shall be limited to one of the following: a promotion, a <br />merit increase, a pay plan adjustment increase or a reclassification <br />increase. <br /> <br />Section 9. Pay for Part-Time Work <br /> The pay plan established by this policy is for full-time <br />service. An employee appointed for less than full-time service will <br />be paid a prorated amount determined by converting the established <br />salary to an hourly rate. <br /> <br />(See Appendix H on Page 379) <br /> <br /> <br />
